Finally got the 1989 UD Mike Gallego error!

I've collected reverse negatives for years and it's taken me years to find this. I'm so proud! (The one on the right is the error.)

I STILL would love the Dale Murphy UD error from that year.

The funny thing is the Murphy error, despite its supposed (and probably mythical) status as a "scarce" error, is about 100x easier to find than this one.

Ok, I know this isn't the same thing, but if you collect this kind of stuff, maybe you can answer a question. I was going thru a handful of 87 Donruss Barry Bonds cards and as I turned them over to look at the reverse, all of them have the printing facing the same direction except for one...it faces the other direction. My first thought is that the card was just facing the wrong way, but it wasn't. Just the printing is different on the reverse. Is this something that is common??? I guess in all the years, I've either never noticed it or never seen one. Thanks for any comments!

Jay, I believe the oddball one is from a factory set, not was.

I used to have a Ton of the UD Murphy errors. I'll look and see if I still have any of them.

I remember getting all worked up over having the '89 UD Sheffield with the upside down SS on the front of the card. I fully expected to retire off the profits.

Yeah, Donruss made one version for its '87 factory sets and one for the wax packs. (I don't know which was which, though.) I THINK that's the only year they did that but I could be wrong.

The Murphy and the Sheridan (no position) were the first 2 cards that upper deck corrected, can't remember which cards they corrected after those. maybe Sheffield and Gallego. The error cards where # 13, 72, 321, 357, 583, 627, 628, 652. Gary Varsho # 321 was the tough one for me to find.

I had heard rumours that UD repinted sheets of the reverse Murphy error, to keep people buying the products. I don't know if they ever admitted to it, though.

Here is a scan of a factory reverse for 1987 Donruss. Cards issued from wax packs face the other direction, with the card number at the top right hand side.

Just ebay. Maybe I missed others but it was the first one I have come across. I paid about $6 for the pair, shipping included.

Heard the same as well. This guy that used to be a big dealer said someone from UD approached him at a show with the errors to "spread the word". Unsure on the validity of that statement as he also said he was one of the original creators of the slabbed cards but got stiffed by his partner(s).

I have a hand collated set with all of the error cards back from '89 when I was rippin' 'em like crazy. I gotta dig those out and see what condition they are in.

Was this Mike Gallego error just recently discovered? I mean, I'm a pretty big historian so to speak regarding 80s/90s and this is the first I've heard of it.

ME< not a fan of created errors, I prefer misprints, wrongbacks ect ect 100% Bill Ripken for example Fred Marion cards @9 are worthy fer sure.

1989 the math sucks one million griffey rookies some are reprint/ bonus cards I agree the Gallego error is 100 times tuffer than Murphy, and Murph is a HOF imo
