    not dumb but why would you start with this one? i have never cleaned a coin but curious about it. do you have a before pic?

    I see some hairlines, but I have seen a lot worse. Why did you want to clean it?

    At least you appear to realize the error of cleaning coins in such a manner and were fortunate enough to learn this by using a relatively common and inexpensive piece.

    Well I dont have a before pic but it had some really nice toning by tarnish and of course at the time I did not know that it was so nice. So I used a household amonia mix and some q tips. Once I learned that this was not a very cool thing to do I bought some "EZEST" and dipped it in that and it did a great job of evening out the tones and giving it a bit more shine but unfortanatly the rubbing from the q tips is apparant around the flat center portions of the coin.

    Put down the Q-tips, step away from the ammonia and stop cleaning coins. image

    Natural toning on original surfaces is a good thing.

    Welcome to the forum and I hope you learn many great pointers from the members here.

    I think you may have learned the first, most important one on your own.
