Another Waverly auction just ended...

I collect 63 topps and cant believe the prices he got for his raw 63 set break. I figure one out of every 12 cards had a decent shot of grading an eight. That being said, even the raw commons with qualifiers i.e. OC,PD,etc were pulling over 10 bucks a card. What I cant understand is that you can buy commons in seven and eights off Ebay stores for the prices people were paying for raw. Did anyone else see this auction and have the same reaction?

    dam straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Flintboy, I noticed the same thing. I was watching one of the '63 commons because I have the same card off at PSA. I was just curious how high the price was going to go. I'm not sure what it ended at, but it was already at book price with 2 hrs. left and it had about a 25% shot at an 8 I think.

Eric has quite a following on ebay. And he also always has the stuff to sell. With that said, at times, cards he has sold have come back from TPG as colored or trimmed. I do not think those are in the majority though. He has a decent return policy too. His auctions seem to perpetuate as he has hi feedback and is 'trusted' by newbies I presume. I have bought a few cards from him with the intention of keeping them raw for some sets I was working on. And I never have had a problem. I think it is those that are trying to get cards graded from him that your sour grapes comes from. Is he an angel? no, but then again not many dealers are. If you are trying to complete a raw set he is one of many dealers to choose from.

edited to add: I do not think that he is the one that works on the cards, I think he gets them that way and with the amount he deals in can't check every card, thus his return policy.

the problem is that many here can't tell if a card is colored and need PSA to tell them that? by that time the return privilage is over.

    Good for you.
