If there were 1000 sets in your "category" would you still be interested in the Registry?

What happens when there are 1,000 sets registered in the Early Lincoln Series?
Does that sound like an unreasonable number? There are over 1,000 1909-s VDB certified. If you have one of them you should be somewhat serious about the series.
Is it going to be any fun to spend $500 to move from #435 to #434?

Are 970 of them tied for first place?

Using the Lincoln cents as an example, I like the series and really don't care about the registry. I collected them before the registry and (hopefully) I'll be collecting them when it fades away. I always collected under the assumption that I will build the best set possible (that I can afford). Lincoln cents probably have over 5000 collectors, however, most are raw and unregistered sets. It has not detered me yet. Except for the very top sets (i.e. S.Blay and T.Mershan) the rest of us are crazy to think that our sets are as good as they are.
I pretty much just enjoy collecting and the registry is just something to keep the interest up and meet other fellow collectors who enjoy the same thing.
