major battle for dominance in PR Kennedy Sets

BearBear Posts: 18,953 ✭✭✭
They are coming out of the woodwork with terrific sets shooting for the numero uno position. Their are at least 6 sets seperated by miniscule fractions ofa percentage point . Be on notice, the bear will not take this challange lying down.I am prowling the woods on behalf of my Jay Ross Set and I am not just looking for roots and berries to eat ,I am looking for coins to upgrade my set. Let the games begin Growwwlll. Determined Bear

  • That looks like a tough set. One must have lots of 70s to compete. The #1 set has all DCAM SMS coins and looks unbeatable.

Maybe that Growl will scare them off?

Carl - I have been working on my growl for several years and its very intimidating, however I also picked up a number of upgrades that should show up in a few days. This is really exciting and a contest motivates us all to improve our sets in the spirit of good sportsmanship. Bear

The number one set has only 4 coins that it can upgrade. Two only have one coin better and those coins are in other registry sets. Another only has 3 better and all 3 are in other sets. The last has only 7 better (and one is taken, but there is one set hidden, so maybe 2).

Now that is a tough place to be in!!!

Their are two ways to stay in this competition, either buy or cherry pick another leading collection as I have done or send your PQ coins in for regrade in the minscule hope of an upgrade to pop-l status as a PR-70DC. In any event we collectores are a resourceful bunch of people and we will always find a way to hang in there. The main problem is that in this lofty level of competition, it does get rather EXPENSIVE. I have not only had to sell off all of my duplicates and minor sets but I had to trade in my youngest son for (2) coins I needed. I did however ,Keep the older boy and my wife, at least for the time being.

  • proudly holding up the #13 slot in the current Proof Kennedy set....sonofgunk pegged the top sets well..hard to upgrade when the coins are already held in sets...as a small hobby collector...certainly cant financially compete with the top sets...going after the 70DCAMS and high end SMS....proud of my set in both appearance and grade...and thats what collecting is all about...of course always looking to upgrade!!! congrats to those fine sets at the top!!!

I'm holding in there at #28 but should move up a couple spots after picking up a 92-S Silver in PR69 DCAM. I have only one PR70 DCAM in my set(bought from Lord Marcovan a few years ago, one of my first slabs for $100) but only have 4 more coins to complete it(minus the 2002's of course). You guys have some killer sets up there at the top.

Hey bear, is there anyway you could post a pic of your AH, 1966 SMS, or 1968-S ???

Andy 007- I dont have a way to do that at this time ,but I intend to call Rick Tomaska tomorrow and see if we can work something out. I believe that pictures of all registry coins would be of great benefit to all collectors. Also it would be of great help when a collector is ready to sell a registry set, good advertising. Bear

I tell you Joe, the good thing about my and your collection is that we still have lots of collecting to do. Some of those guys in front of us are bored silly looking for upgrades. Hell, I bet they're collecting bottle caps or something just to stay in practice.image

Don - Speaking as a bear, when we get bored we go for a good back scratch against the rough bark of a tree.If we are really lucky, we can steal honey from a bees nest. Now doesnt that sound better then collecting bottle caps.
