Anyone ever purchased cards from (555) on eBay?

Just curious to see what kind of luck anyone else has had with them. The list a ton of vintage, but lately I am questioning the condition accuracy of each card. Have been frustrated lately and just wanted to see if anyone else had an experience with them - good or bad.

  • They're on my 'don't buy from again' list. I bought a handful of cards cheap from them. Cards were over graded by them. Cards came in a regular envelope in top loaders with no penny savers, so that didn't help matters.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

  • I have put them on my "DO NOT BID" list. I won a $3 card from them, and sent them cash. They claim they never got it. Truth or lie? I don't know...but given the post office does deliver the mail correctly about 99.9% of the time, I can only assume they lied.

They are on my do not buy from list too. Overgraded garbage, poorly packaged and shipped, terrible customer service.

  • Man you guys are right on this topic. My experience exactly. I bought a 12 card 1973 Topps football lot for $9.10 and shipping was $8.10. When the cards arrived they were in a rugged old mailer, with top loaders only (no penny sleeves) - just awful packaging. Oh and it cost $1.87 to ship.

Have bought raw cards from them over the years.
They really don't overgrade any more than your average raw card dealer on eBay.

You're never going to get any stuff that would grade PSA 8 or 9,
but they provide okay scans and the price is right, so every so often you can get some decent cards from them. image

I have bought raw cards from them several times. My experience has been similar to Wolfbear. They are overgraded, but similar to most raw on eBay. Check scans carefully. Bid accordingly. I have not had problems with shipping or damage to cards. That might put me over the edge. Best of luck!!
  • A couple years ago, I purchased some raw '75's from them. Grading seemed to be right on, but shipping was outrageous....if I remember right, they did NOT "combine" or reduce shipping costs.

I bought from them 4 or 5 times three years ago or so....before I knew better......... They only took money orders or cash......sent cash twice.....once they "never" got it.

I was happy with cards but was only looking for 50's stuff in Ex-Nr. ( they graded it NR-Mint)

  • recently (10/8) won an ebay auction from 555 for a 99 cent card described as "ex-mt"
was pleased that condition appeared much nicer than ex-mt...
unfortunately, when measured, the card was clearly TRIMMED!!
  • The sad part is this "loser" will keep selling & ripping off more collectors

I won 1 card from him on ebay, my PSA2 #144 Ruth, which is very nice.

The listing stated 2.00 for shipping and I definitely wanted insurance. The listing made no mention of insurance.

When it ended I clicked on the Pay link and they had made insurance optional on the invoice and had stated a price for the insurance (22.50!!!) even though the actual USPS cost would be 14.50.

I attempted to email them to find out if this was a mistake and even called several times in an effort to get it resolved and paid for.

I got an email telling me that was the correct amount because of all of the extra that they have to do when mailing insured.

I ended up telling them that if they are going to GOUGE a customer on insurance, then it needs to be stated up front IN the listing and not sprung upon the winning bidder AFTER the fact.

They ended up telling me to pay it and they'd refund me part of it in cash. I got the card after several more email exchanges with someone that apparently doesn't read or comprehend too well. They sent me 9.00 cash.

I got a nice card but their insurance charges are extremely deceptive. As a rule, I will not do business with sellers that do such things with shipping/handling/insurance.

I've bought and been disappointed. They seem to overgrade, and I don't think they take Paypal.
    Enjoy your collection!

  • Just bought a 1971 Baseball set from them, they claimed ex/mt to nm waaaaay overgraded. it's a tough set but i'm not sure how you get ex./mt - nm from vg to vg/ex. certainly there are some cards in the set that qualify but not enough to claim the whole set as such. and now i can't get them to reply to my e mails, getting close to neg feedback time but with as many as they have it probably won't matter. and i'm sure i'll get a retaliatory neg in return even though i paid by paypal right away. bottom line don't buy complete sets from them. PB
  • Bought from them many times in the past. They almost always overgrade and always have, but scans are good. You can look at the scans and easily see they're overgraded and bid accordingly.

They do have a shipping discount, but don't have a cap on shipping. Don't remember the shipping being sloppy or ever getting a card from them that was damaged by PO.

    (555) used to be a power seller and didn't take paypal. No longer a power seller, because of low feedback rating I assume. Shipping generally took 7-10 days and if you hadn't gotten cards in that time frame, you wouldn't be getting them. If you don't get the cards, no use contacting them because they don't respond. At least now, with them taking paypal, you can file a claim and get a refund.

Best I can say for them is buyer be aware.

these guy is a major sleazeball

anyone who buys from this dweeb deserves get screwed

yet one post states he over grades BUT adjust your bidding to reflect that

You must be a glutton for pain

    He overgrades
He has to be the worst packer ever & yet some think it's still ok to buy from this cretin?

No wonder these scum continue to thrive on Ebay

Some people keep buying from them

    Just say NO !!!!!!!

  • Here is previous thread on this subject: Raw card discussion - 555
While they are guilty as charged on all counts mentioned, if you examine the scans very closely and are selective, you can do pretty well. Two improvements they have made: 1) they take Paypal and 2) more reasonable on shipping charges for multiple lots won. Unfortunately, I think their overgrading has gotten worse, which is my biggest issue with them.

  • besides the over-grading wouldnt the SUBSTANDARD shipping be just as big an offense? no bubble wrap? a clasp envelope? cards thrown in unprotected into a white envelope? Who would ever ship cards like that?

I had placed a bid on a '56 Kaline and the auction is still going. He has sent me 3 emails in 1 hour (from 2 different email addys) stating the winning bidder has not followed through and he his offering me a second chance offer. Ummm....the auction is still going. What's that all about?

go to your "My Ebay" page and see if those messages appear there.

    I suspect that they don't.
  • KarbKarb Posts: 557 ✭✭✭
Well of course they don't appear in there. He is a crooked bastid. I have run into so many of them this past month it is sickening. But they'll wait for the auction to end first unlike this guy. And I always check my eBay messages after receiving an email from these guys just to make sure.
