I just renewed but I agree, I do not think PSA treats it's customers very well.. PSA has me over a barrel and I am just going to take it. I have so many submissions in now I know something must pop soon. I am another one still waiting on the June Special. I wonder if all the June Specials will be done before October.
  • i was reading another post, and someone said that they talked to a rep and said the june specials are supposed to be done next week.lol don russell

Mine just expired, and I'm holding off ...probably for '08.
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

Mine was more of a procrastination.

My SCD lapsed - and I didn't realize it - I have been a subscriber continuous since 1990!

I like the SCD - but since I don't really collect graded cards, I always have to scramble to find 6 cards to submit.

  • I've been a member for the past year and it lapsed in late October. I tried to renew and got the following error :

You are not a current or prior paid Collectors Club member, and are not eligible to purchase a renewal membership.

I was holding off until they came out with a good $5 special, and they've got one this month. Sooo, I've re-upped for 2 years and will be making massive updates to my various registry sets soon. image

i would have renewed my membership, but i didnt realize it was about to expire, and they waited until the date had already passed before they sent the "your membership is about to expire" letter.. so they lose until i feel like submitting something again, then perhaps i'll renew with PSA..

I will renewal when it comes time. I think PSA does a fine job overall and there is no alternative. I enjoy sending in cards for grading.

Interesting topic... didn't realize there were several others in the same boat I'm in...

My membership expires later this month, and I've been dragging my feet too....
I have three submissions in now, so I should be good for a while.

I doubt I renew for a while myself. Customer Service does seem to be hit-or-miss with PSA.
I've had a couple good experiences, and deff. a few BAD experiences with CU Customer Service.

Overall, I'm OK with the "product" I get from PSA.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

Mine expired last June and at the present time I have little intention of rejoining. Being able to buy graded cards from other sources much faster than the turnaround on submission was one of the deciding factors. I do have some cards that may get graded someday, but not in the near future.

SGC is quietly making in roads in the post war vintage market, especially late 50's. Very consistent grades. PSA still has market share but SGC prices are right there and gaining with a lot of PSA cards, especially lower pop commons. I was surprised. chaz

Never been a member, never will.

I'll buy any graded cards I want on eBay.
  • I may, but it has nothing to do with the customer service or the quality of their product. My gripe comes with the way they have dealt with Cal's minor league cards. If they had the hobby in mind one would think they would want accurate information on the slabs and in their publications.

    just renewed earlier today.

have no clue what I'm going to do with the 12 subs but I guess I've got a touch over 2 years to figure it out.

I have plenty of cards I'd like to submit, but I'm not joining anything just for the privilege. They'd get way more "casual" submissions from me if I could just send them in on a whim, but going through the whole rigamarole of joining kills the thrill of the impulse.

That, and the pop report should be free for EVERYONE.

I simply don't like their business model in regards to submissions, although I'm happy to buy cards that somebody ELSE sent in for grading.

I admire your optimism. I just sent off a bunch of cards for my registry sets under this special and I was thinking that this spring I'll be adding lots of new cards.

    That's my problem.

Two years ago, my vouchure expired by 20 days when I sent it in - they accepted it.

Last year I sub'ed them in the last month.

I really don't want the graded cards that badly.

I don't buy raw cards and most of the star cards I have were purchased during the days when raw Nmmt is actually Exmt - by today's standards.

In 1988, I never thought of bringing a mag to a show.

  • run out in august but my patience ran out first ,3 month wait for my june sub,I will wait till there is a decent special then rejoin

The $100 for six ten day grading alone makes it a good deal. Plus you get the SMR, the online stuff and the PSA gymbag.
  • Looks like there is a new gift for joining. A book titled "A Portrait of Baseball Photography". I'd rather have the bag. Heck, I still have the red, white and blue bag from a few years back. I'll rejoin in Jan. when my subscription runs out. I'm not overly thrilled but I do find enough raw card deals to make it worthwhile to send them in on my own.

    I'm done.

I will never send another card to PSA. It is ridiculous I have to send in a card 2-3 times for it to get the right grade and even further that it gets a different grade all 3 times.

    I just had a card go from a 6 to 9. I knew it wasn't a 6, but I KNOW it isn't a 9. A little consistency would be nice.

But after sending in 2000+ cards, I am done.

I gave up my PSA membership after some rather less than stellar customer service experiences. This was before all of the recent problems discussed on these and other boards. I couldn't help but laugh when they ended up sending me a letter promoting their advertising services and what not, something that was obviously intended to go to their dealers and not their subscribers.

It's getting tougher to renew each year. My submissions have gone down substantially from a few years ago. Part of it has to do with having less time to track down raw cards to submit but also it's getting tougher to justify submitting raw when I can usually buy the same card already graded cheaper on eBay. For the grade I mostly collect (PSA 8 vintage), the values mostly continue to drop while the cost of nice high grade raw cards continue to soar. So I'd rather buy them already graded than take the risk of submitting cards and getting the usual small % of 7s that are losers, 8's that often sell for under $10 on eBay and the occasional 9 that makes the submission worth while. Aside from low pops, most PSA 8's from the 60's sell for less than the grading fee + raw "book" value of the card. Few dealers sell NM-MT or nicer raw cards from that era for less than Beckett. Usually they want double book value. Who wants to buy some nice raw NM/MT 1969 Al Dark's for $3-$5?

I mainly renew because I want access to the pop report and online SMR.

That is weak. A photography book for card collectors? The duffel bag was the best item. The Joe Orlando Top 200 book and the two hardcover card books they gave out were pretty good. I have both a red cap and a black one and those are useless.

Just typing this, I am shocked that I have renewed with PSA for so many years.

I'm gonna go ahead and join just to get some raw Mantles I've had for years graded - they aren't in spectacular shape (VG-EX) but they'll look sharp in PSA plastic and be much more salable if I ever wanna sell 'em. Sorry to hear of zef's experiences. I've had less than 3 cards from PSA where I wondered where they got the grade from - but mostly I am in agreement with their standards.

Goose, I'll just send you this stack of US Caramel and Goudey Ruth's I just found - that'll use up those vouchers! ;P
  • Procrastinating because I don't have anything to grade.image
  • I dropped my subscription over 5 years ago and switched to Beckett.
P S A charges for everything and I don't think you should pay additional money to see how many cards are Graded. I used to pay for the Population Report that got to expensive for them to print.

At the Beckett site I can check on any of my Graded Cards. Still hold a few Top Beckett Graded Cards in the U S A.

  • I sent 117 cards to BGS last month....it's modern stuff.
Haven't renewed my membership with PSA yet with all the long waits
the past several months. It may be several more months before I renew. I hate the membership fee. I only send maybe 3 huge bulk per year (if that). Right now I have 200+ cards ready for grading. If I send those in, I'm done for the year with PSA. I don't care for the SMR, I don't care for the gift, and I don't care for the 6 free grading.
    I'm in no hurry....
