Bronko Nagurski ... The (PSA) Bar Has Been Set ...

I know there is at least one person (me) on this board that would someday like to own a 1935 National Chicle Bronko Nagurski card. A PSA 5 sold tonight for $6,638.00 here:

1935 National Chicle Bronko Nagurski PSA 5

SMR lists a PSA 5 at $4,800.00; PSA 6 at $6,500.00. In my uneducated opinion, I would rate the card as having good to very good eye appeal. Here's a good one. On the back of the card, it says "A product of wheat farm country, he still works the soil between action on the football field and professional wrestling mat." - Wrestling - A precursor to Adam "Pacman" Jones?

In any case, great looking card.

That Nag went for 5 days without a single bid on it, I thought for sure it wasnt going to get any action even though it is a great looking card.

I think even a very rough looking PSA 1 typically sells for $1500 or more.

It's a fairly good indication for a PSA 1, but this 1935 National Chicle Bronko Nagurski SGC 20 (PSA 1.5) went for $1,675.00.

    I've been watching for a decent PSA1-2
  • I came in 2nd on this Nagurski. This is the 2nd time in the past few months that the card sold for over $6,600. SMR is not close on this set for most of the cards, especially the high numbers. This card was part of a breakup of a complete set. The overall GPA for this set was 4.61 and the total of the bids for the 33 cards that sold was over $16,500. 3 cards did not get a bid including the Knute Rockne which I thought was reasonably priced. I had hoped yesterday would be an expensive day but got shut out on all my lots in this set. Guess that means I can splurge today.
