52 Mantle - Think it will sell?

Some people don't have a clue, but I'd say it's legit.

Looks trimmed to me

It looks totally legit, and it will sell.

Edited once your link changed: Fugly card, does not look legit, and I hope it won't sell.

    Not trimmed though tilted, IMO.

Not trimmed and not a high 4 like this seller claims. A 'high' 4 needs better centering.

I love how people always have to make such claims.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Had wrong link changed to right one

Maybe, I'm one of those without a clue

Above replies are about this Mantle which I originally incorrectly linked to

Saw the second one. What the hell is that?

Ok, first of all are 52 Topps Mantles that rare?? You have to love the blurred pictures and no mention, of course, that this is a card with out any borders!!

    You're joking right?

When's the last time somebody sold an expensive PSA card on ebay and didn't refer to it as something like a high end card for the grade? LOL
  • StingrayStingray Posts: 8,843 ✭✭✭
No, not joking!! I do not mean high grade 52 Mantles, just 52 Topps Mantles in general, I would not consider them to be rare by any means.
  • Today's Pop report shows there are 822 1952 Topps Mantles out there.

361 of them are 5 or better.

    No, that's not a "rare" card. It's a "desirable" card, that's all.

And if you want to get really technical, there's more 1952 Mantles graded than ANY OTHER CARD in the entire 1952 Topps set.

Color seems very nice. I'd not be as surprised at the price were it a nice centered example.

    1952 Topps Article

All the 1952 Topps high numbers are rare but the Mantle was one of 3 double prints in the last series.
  • I guess it depends on what your definition of "rare" is. I do consider it a rare card. Aside from it being a Mantle card, the prices that card demands speaks for itself. You don't get ahold of one for cheap, so I guess I consider it rare that I'll ever have a 5 or above, lol.

  • I guess I'm looking at it too literally.

A T206 Wagner is "rare"... you cant find them. And when they do come out, they're in the hundreds of thousands (not factoring the McNall/Gretzky).

There's a 1952 Topps Mantle card on eBay EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Yeah, it's pricey, but that's just demand..... not supply.
  • Why would someone sell a legit Mantle card with a pic that bad?
  • bluemarlinbluemarlin Posts: 627 ✭✭✭
Why does this seller have two of the same pics of this card? and a 15,000 starting bid
on a clearly trimmed borderless POS. For that kind of money you could easily pick up a graded
    PSA 5 example.

Don't forget this PSA card gets cracked and resubmitted quite a bit so there certainly are less than 822 out there.

There is about a 0% chance that this card is even authentic. The only good thing about this auction is that this clown has paid a hefty listing fee to throw this piece of crap up on the 'bay.

Interesting observation about the numbers .

Naturally it is not the only card they are doing that to as well .

I wonder now how many really have been graded when the same card has been graded 10 times times or whatever ??

Or do they know for certain each individual card ?
  • originalisbestoriginalisbest Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭✭
I doubt they could keep track of any but the very highest grade examples (9, 10) for even a '52 Mick.
  • I find it hard to beleive that anyone who can afford a card of this value cant afford a better camera or scanner for the photo.

If the link is correct at the top. I dont know what the hell that is. For all I know its a ink jet copy from a magazine or something.

.25 photo, $10,000+ card. Makes sense to me!
