Best Baseball Magazines

Ok...I'm thinking about decorating my office. I'm considered autographed Perez Steeles, and now I'm thinking about framed baseball magazines.

So, what are the great covers out there?

Here are a few I'm considering:

So...what others am I missing? I'd love a nice Mays, McCovey or Marichal, but I haven't seen one... (this one isn't bad...)

  • There is some incredible photography in old Sport magazine issues. I was just checking out some 50 to early 60's shots of the Yankees . Brooklyn Dodgers , Clemente , Kluzewski , etc. Check out this link you'll see what I mean , http://imageevent.com/ccmcnutt/1950ssportmagazineimages

Sport is really underappreciated. They were always about pro sports. Often times, especially in the first 10-15 years of it's existence, SI had a strong strain of outdoors-related features, more like Field & Stream than anything most of us would see today in the magazine. Thus, when you look at some of it's covers in the anthologies, instead of featuring Aaron or Clemente (or Unitas or Chamberlain, for that matter), the ones from that era were often showing pics of guys fishing or hunting on their cover.

  • 2 of my favorites. September 1946 Joe DiMaggio (first Sport issue) and April 1959 my favorite player as a kid..Rocky Colavito.

(Those scans are webfinds, not my copies, although my Aaron Sport is very close to that.)

    Some other cool ones...

  • Mays Aaron

You can find some great covers on non-sports magazines. Sorry it is cropped but it was too big for the scanner.

  • I have some great Street & Smiths Baseball with Mantle, Berra, Mays, Musial, etc. covers. Those look pretty sweet. Old Sporting News (the large newspaper style from the 50's) also look really nice when framed.
