1964 Topps Stand Up Packs on Ebay

Looks like the winner of the 1964 Topps Stand Up box in the recent Mastro auction is listing each pack individually on ebay, unless these are from another source? Some nice looking packs here.

I didnt know that was who bought them.
Should be interesting watching them sell for the third time in about 7 months.
And just think, he still has over 50 packs at home still.....

Isn't the Yaz a short print in that set? Surprised he doesn't want more than $750 to start. (Mind you, he DOES want a $3000 start for Mantle.)

does anyone want to maximize there money on this box!! why list 52 of them at once? why list multiples of the same player at once? will be interesting to see how many sell and if the stars garner the premiums that they should . I think he is going to do pretty good on the box suspecting that many of the star packs will get gobled up but time will tell

    List of '64s on eBay

    Link

Hits a few of those minimums and he makes a nice bit of coin...
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • My strategy might have been to list 5-10 packs starting out.

A few commons, maybe a short print or two, and a big card like Mantle or a HOF'er. Test the waters out, and see who's bitting. Build up some excitment.

Then do the rest of the box over a few months. But maybe he'll do well, who knows...

Yes, tt does seem odd to list all those packs at the same time like that. Will be interesting to see how many wind up with bids. Some opening bids are bargains, others not so much.

So at least two cards per pack will be damaged??? 1 by gum, 2nd by wax. Thanks, but no thanks.
  • isnt there only one card per pack? that was my understanding from the old thread.

wont the card be damaged? (wax>?

If I'm recalling it correctly, wasn't this the guy who came on here or on the Network54 board and claimed that he was truly a collector, and bought the cards for his enjoyment and not to resell? That he was simply an "unopened pack collector" and just wanted the packs unopened and it didn't particularly matter to him about the possible condition of the card inside the pack? Frankly, I never "bought that" for a second - not for this kind of money. So the fact that he's selling tells me what a bunch of pure BS that was. LOL

I still say that despite the interesting aspect of it being an unopened pack, to me the only real value is of the card inside which for all probability if not certainty has a very bad gum stain on it. I have a feeling the buyer may have came to the same conclusion and decided to sell.

It's a very cool item, no question about that, but no way that card inside is a 10 just from the stain alone. Be interesting to see how these sell. But these packs are not even close to a good value in my view because my only interest in buying a vintage unopened pack like this would be to bust it.

    Auction description:

"You are bidding on an unopened 1964 Topps Stand Up 1 cent Wax Pack featuring Al Kaline. This item has been graded Perfect 10 by Global Authentication and has also been verified as being authentic and unopened. This fascinating and factory-fresh, particularly scarce package contains a single, never-touched collectible from Topps' brilliantly colored, green-and-yellow-themed Stand-Ups production. The 77 cards in this fragile release were designed to have their tops "punched out," thus allowing the depicted players to "stand" freely. This die-cut innovation, along with the flush-to-the-border aspect of the items' design, makes finding these unusual cards in high grade especially difficult, and unopened product is virtually unheard-of. With careful scrutiny you can see the players name through the almost translucent wax wrapper. We will be offering quite likely the only verifiably complete 1964 Topps Stand-Ups set that still exists in its original packaging. Please view my other auctions for more cards from this rare find. Shipping is $5 for the first item and .50 for each additional item. Insurance over $100 is available at an additional charge. Good luck bidding!"

The fact that this seller doesn't mention the likelihood or certainty that the card in this pack contains a very bad gum stain, fits my definition of a weasel card dealer. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong!
