Landscape slabs?

I haven't seen this discussed here before (though it probably was), but does anyone find it a little annoying when you have a card that's displayed in landscape format (horizontal) but PSA slabs are vertical only? I just think these cards would display so much better if PSA had a horizontal (or landscape) slab for these cards. Just a thought, yell at me if you must. image

    That's a great idea bro. PSA...you listening?

This is a great idea. T202 Triple Folders and the horizontal T206 cards would look great in these!

  • I agree 85 topps football would look much better in psa holder horizontally.

It's funny, I've toyed with the idea of doing mid-grade sets of either 1956 or 1960 Topps baseball, but have held off partly because they are horizontal. Just doesn't present as well.

  • This bodes a question I have pondered, not to highjack the thread too much, but...

When you're using eight pocket sheets for vintage cards such as 1952-1954 topps that display vertically how do you arrainge them on the sheet?

Example..when you open the folder so that the there are four rows of two facing you do you numerically go

    1-2
    3-4
    5-6
    7-8

    Or do you go

    5-1
    6-2
    7-3
    8-4

    or possibly

    4-8
    3-7
    2-6
    1-5

Or does any of this make sense at all? I prefer the top method but I was just wondering what others felt.

'55 Bowmans would be another beneficiary... great idea.

Yea, but then the slabs would be different size and you wouldn't be able to stack them.

True. It'd be good for sets that are entirely horizontal, not so good for mixed.

I agree. This trumps the benefit IMO.

You also would not be able find protective sleeves. This has been a pain for the unconventional size holders as well.

In my case it depends on the set. My 1954 Topps set is in sheets:

    4 8
    3 7
    2 6
    1 5

My 1955 and 1956 sets are:

    1 2
    3 4
    5 6
    7 8

This works better with the horizontal format.

Maybe PSA could at least make it an option. If you are worried about being able to stack the slabs then you could continue to use the current slabs. But if you are looking for a better way to display a horizontally printed card then you could opt to have the card put in the landscape slab. That would allow PSA to serve both types of customers.

I disagree, I wouldn't like all the different sized casses. I agree the '53 Bowman Pee Wee is a sweet card. But the cool thing about looking at it horizontally is that you don't see the PSA label gleaming right at you too. I vote no on the whole issue. That's just my humble opinion.
  • Why would the size have to change ? Just change the PSA label to a horizontal format.

How does this not change the holder size unless you're saying reformat the flip to print with the same orientation as the card?? That would not look very appealing.

I can see why some people wouldn't like it. If all you have are normal size psa holders and want to be able to stack them (although IMO, I would rather display most than stack them away). I guess I just don't like the fact that you can either have an easy to read/view card or an easy to read/view title and grade for landscape cards. I could see doing this for sets that every card is a landscape, but not for sets that have some of both. Just a thought. Thanks alot for all the feedback (and the highjack, lol).
