  • I would leave that one alone, you will destroy it if you try to remove it. It looks like someone tried already on the upper left corner. Personally, I think it gives it character. Sure the value is ruined, but just think, you now own some kids most prized possession from the 50's, back when the values didn't mean anything. I bet that card could tell a story or 2!!!

    Ouch.

I would keep it as is. If you pull back the tape, you could lose some paper with it.

    Sorry and best of luck.

I have almost no experience doing such....but ya might try a hair dryer and start at a distance,,,,moving closer to the card to see it it would 'loosen' the tape. From there you can try a adhesive remover. Just trying to pull the tape will take the top layer off for sure.
btw...years back a guy did advertise in the sport card news about being able to remove nearly any stain from any card without any noticeable detection afterwards. It was expensive about $100.

personnaly I would leave it alone...I don't think you can increase the value by removing the tape.

That Mantle belongs in some bike spokes like the good old days. It couldn't get much worse. Cool card though. At least you know it's not tampered with.
  • ditto (match)........................................i would leave it alone

I think if you tried to remove the tape you would destroy what is left of the card...

Taking the tape off takes the card from a set filler to almost worthless. Never going to be a lady, just enjoy what you have. Your 56 mantle is better than mine!

If you do any more damage to that '56 Mantle, I'll personally come over there and hit you upside the head with it.

OK, i can help you with this. You'll need two cottonballs. Dip one in peach flavored yogurt and spread on the stain, and let dry. Take the other cottonball and dip it in an alcoholic beverage- preferrably a Spiced Rum- Captain Morgan's works great. Then freeze that cottonball for 45 minutes, remove from freezer and soak in lemon-lime flavored seltzer. Then you rub the selzter/rum soaked cottonball over the dried peach yogurt. Now here's where it gets tricky- you're going to take a pink carnation and cut off the flower part. Press the flowery part over the gluey area and place a heavy book on top and let sit for 12 days. After 12 days are up, removed the book and carnation and rub stained area with rubbing alcohol. That should do the trick. Glad I could help.

I think you forgot that you're supposed to also put the lime in the coconut and shake it all about....
  • I have used lighter fluid on very old books and board games that had tape on them. The lighter fluid evaporates and it disolves the glue on the tape. You have to let it sit for about 5 or 6 minutes. I dont know if I would do it on a 6 mantle. Take some tape and experiment on a common new card. I have never had any issues.

After the lighter fluid soaks in pull the tape very slowly and evenly. Good luck.

i disagree with CDsNuts.....i wouldn't put any sort of alcohol on the card whatsoever, that is what made Mickey sick image

Actually, the alcohol would only get soaked up and you end up with a Mantle with a bad liver. I think his drink of choice was a bloody mary so I would try that to see if he lets go of the tape.
