With that thread title I was expecting something better for a Friday morning!

Fake. I only say this because if you have to ask then they are probably fake.

Real maybe, I would want a scan of the back of the musial. The Dimaggio has about 100 color variations to the background. With the staining and creasing it looks real or someone has way too much time on their hands.

    Sellers says:

<< <i>(Recently found in old box in attic) >>

That right there says it all.... image

  • they look real to me. look at his other auctions. seems like selling walker cooper and sid gordon 48 bowmans with writing on the card is not something that is going to make anyone rich. The attic story is a bit scary but based on the other cards he's selling, he may be telling the truth IMO.

Got this at an estate sale...

    Dead grandfather...

    Found this under the dryer....

    Found this in the basement...

    Found this in the attic....

<< <i>1948 Leaf Gum Co. #4--Stan Musial - St. Louis Cardinals--a little moisture stain on the back side (Recently found in old box in attic) >>

If anyone saw the movie "Basic" - Travolta says - "all we gotta do is tell the story right."

Now this is just a guess - he shoulda said basement - that would back up the moisture - the attic?

My attic is bone dry and hot as hell.

The sales pitch is a bit on the lame side, but the cards actually look legit to me.

They're reprints - ya gotta understand that these reprints have been around now for a number of years, and they can start taking on wear characteristics of genuine vintage cards, especially genuine cards which have basically been well stored since the 70's or 80's. So a 20 or so year old reprint bounced around in a drawer and handled can start looking like wear on a genuine older vintage card.
  • should the back say REPRINT on the back as many of the legit reprint sets do?
  • Mnay of the reprint sets from the 70s and early 80s do not say reprint on them. really hard to say from the pics
  • I dont know but the reprints usually had green printed backs.
The fronts also had a different tint to them.
Looks pretty damn real to me.
I think what is throwing a wrench into the works is having a card of Sid Gordon with the writing on it and charging the same opening bid for stars and commons alike.
If its a marketing tool to make people think all of them are real, than this guy is a genius.
Usually scammers arent, so take your pick.
Im on the fence with this one...

I don't think hell gets that hot. I don't know where you live but here in Oklahoma with the humidity so high in the middle of summer well you know, see the above quote. image
