basketball auto experts...Any help here?

I'm not a big fan of GAI but i am a big fan of 1980's fleer basketball. Any opinions on these autos?
I would like to pick them up. But do not want to throw my money away either.. should i just keep walking?
Thanks for any help.

Dustin.

Are these all part of one lot, or are they separate items for sale?

The reason I ask is that last year, a dealer I have bought many autographs from, sent me a batch of autographed cards that also had a Barkley autographed card in the batch (I think there may actually have been two Barkley's in the batch). They look almost exactly like the GAI certified above.
It does not really fit into any collections I have going at the moment.

If these are separate auctions, you could save the money on the Barkley, and I'd sell you one of mine for cheaper than the one above--and if you do not like it when you get it, you can return it for a full refund. Just a thought, unless you would prefer to have a GAI authenticated version (mine is still unslabbed).

I can't recall offhand at this moment, but I'm pretty sure one (or both) were on Fleer cards. I'll pull them out when I get home from work and send you a PM.

Not too be a downer, but I've cracked 2 Rice autographs that were GAI authenticated and submitted to PSA/DNA and both came back as questionable authentication.

I don't trust GAI auto authentication at all! I'm my opinion, people only send autographs to GAI that wouldn't pass a reputable authencator such as PSA/DNA, JSA, ect..

  • I am completing an autographed 1989-1990 Hoops set. I have looked at, purchased, traded, TTM, got in person many hundreds of autographs from this time period. In my opinion, they all look good to me. I am not an expert, thoughimage. I think that some of these autographs are very weak, though. I am actually very close to completing this set, but I have been working on it since the time it was released. I do have extras of most players, since I have been upgrading signatures as well, if anyone is interested in a few.

  • After GAI graded all these fake autos that came from the fleer auction unsigned I lost respect for them. To me its easy to see the same person signed all of them. First the ebay sellers were trying to sell them without GAI, but collectors were telling they don't even exist and that they are fake, they got GAI to authenticate them

  • I also do not like GAI autograph authentication. I've seen many Gretzky GAI certified autos that look very questionable. I do have several GAI autos in my collection but they were in person authentication at one of the Hollywood Park shows.

I hate to pile on, but I have also seen some bogus autographs slabbed by GAI.

If you take a look at my Basketball Hall of Fame set I have scans of factory authenticated cards of Barkley and Magic. Hope they help you out.

Yeah after thinking about I decided to just pass on them..They may be legit? but I think I will wait for something else I'd be more comfortable dealing with PSA/DNA or JSA..Thank for everybody's input.
