"This card was raw graded at the East Coast National at a PSA 1"....Comments??

Okay, they aren't my comments but I frequently check for Chicle Bronkos on the bay, looking for an affordable PSA POS and ran across THIS one the other night.

Note the description of the card where the seller states it was "Raw Graded".

Well I emailed the seller earlier and asked if it was raw or graded by PSA and holdered.

Just received an interesting reply.

<< <i>When you Raw grade a show, the grader "estimates" the card. if it had a PSA grade, and was slabbed, it would be listed as so. >>

I was not aware that PSA gave free opinions.

Hmmmm, maybe when they saw a Rep. at one of the tables, he asked the person what he thought it might grade ??

That is the only thing I can think of ???

If it was possible to be a '0' this one might have qualified. Did the submitter actually think it would get anything higher than a 1? And, no, I didn't know they did that either. To add to that, I don't believe they give free estimates; it wouldn't be good for business. Just my 2 cents.

psa is not gonna give free nothing period lol, except a voucher, i do believe this guy is full of it, if he got estimates why werent they slabbed at east coast show, ask corolj, shell tell ya if psa gives estimes on raw, its the 1st ive ever heard of it??,i be doubting it myself, why should they??
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but PSA doesn't do raw grading, period.

BGS does, but they'll wrap a sticker around the card saver that'll tear if the card is removed. I've seen BGS raws on eBay.

Any, anyway, no documentation = no truth!

sounds like a line of bull to pull in less informed collectors who may think this is actually a service PSA provides.

He's got some other vintage cards SGC graded in other ebay auctions right now, so why wouldn't he get this card graded when even as a 1, it would have to fetch more money? I always basically avoid sellers such as this, and especially a particular auction like this with an ungraded card that really should have been graded.

Of course he's got vintage Playboy Magazines right now in other ebay auctions so he can't be all bad. image

  • I go to the National every year and more often than not as I go from table to table you are told by a number of sellers that they have had this or that card looked at by some one in the know who allegedly grades cards for the various companies at the show and almost always when I ask them if they could accompany me over to PSA/SGC etc and I'll pay to get the card graded or in the case of signed autographs PSA/DNA authenticated on site and only the legit sellers have no problem with that. As for the rest of them you get a million lame excuses why they can't or they flat out say no. I wonder which seller this person would be at the show?

PSA does not pre-grade cards at any show and the only time we have graders attend a show is when we are offering on-site grading.
