  • The 90-91 UD Hockey set is chuck full of future HOFers and rookies. A nice set but so mass produced it carries little value. Some graded gem mint rookies from the set sell for solid premiums though. It is one of my favorite sets to grade rookie cards. You could probably pick up a raw combined low and high series set for under $20. Boxes are readily available in the $10 range plus shipping. The 91-92 UD set also is chuck full of rookies like Selanne, Forsberg, Hasek, and Lindstrom but doesn't have the eye appeal of the 90-91 set.

1990-91 OPC Premiere is still a popular and attractive set (though it will never again carry the value it did when it came out. Anyone else spend $40 on a Fedorov rookie??). 1992-93 Bowman is also a very attractive set (plus it has the gold bordered inserts). I also like a lot of the Upper Deck SP sets that started coming out in the mid '90s.
  • wow! i remember those OPCPr Sergei's selling for over $200 here in the Detroit area!! packs for $30.....and the 90UD's going for well over $70.....double the amount for the French variation!. i remember opening a box of the Frenchys and pulling 5 Sergei's and 7 Bure's. i CLEANED UP at a local show (helps i'm close to Canada). Now the Frenchys are worth the same and both have dwindled to crap. shame, because the rookie factor is mighty strong!! sergei, bure, jagr, roenick, mogilny, potvin etc.....shame about the Score set from that year too. remember the Lindros going for over $80......oh the early 90s......

Wow, those were crazy prices! I guess I was lucky to "only" have to pay around Beckett prices.
  • Man, i loved selling those UD packs, boxes and sets for super premiums when they came out. earlier this year i sold 100 packs of 1991-92 UD and a monster box of 3200 cards for less than $100.

    LOL.

Per the recent SMR Magazine article, the 1990-91 OPC has a couple of "holy grail" 10s in the set, Keith Primeau being one that is apparently impossible to find in a 10.
  • Thanks guys. I just won three PSA 10's of the 90-91 UD set, so I think I am going to stick with this. Always looking for more PSA 10's from this set though. Just PM or e-mail (kevinmarema@gmail.com) me if you have any you are looking to get rid of. Thanks.

  • The 80's OPC sets are really cool.

When I was collecting as a kid in the late 80's, early 90's, they were my holy grail.

    -Great designs (esp 81/82, 85/86, 86/87)
-Rare (you still don't seem them much, esp in much quantity)
    -Unmatched player selection and rookies

They've held up pretty well next to 90/91 OPC Premier, 90 Upper Deck or anything early 90's.

I got a box of OPC Premier last week. Sold, traded the ones I had as a kid, so it was cool getting them back. Pulling a Federov out of a pack is still cool.

Back to the best modern hockey set...I'll have to go with 85/86-88/89 OPC, take your pick.

I think the most I ever spent on a pack of french upper deck hockey was $20. Glad I stopped there!!

The 88/89 OPC set is REALLY NICE!! image I was thinking about collecting them. Maybe I will do that along with this one. image Well, I live in South Florida and Joe Nieuwendyk works for the Panthers now, so I might be able to get his card from that set signed then graded. What do you all think that would be worth???

    1987-88 (Roy's 2nd year and a handful of decent RC's)

It's my favorite for being the first hockey cards I ever opened.. though I do like the design quite a bit as well (I was 7 years old)
