This 60 Mantle worth more in BVG 7 or PSA 6 holder??

Hi guys...bought this card for my 60 PSA set hoping to cross it to a PSA 7. After receiving the card, I think it could go either way and come back as a nice 6 or lower end 7 depending on the day. I do not want to put it in a PSA 6 holder if you all think it will hurt its value relative to the BVG 7 holder it is currently in...appreciate your input and comments. Scratches are on holder and not card.

Thanks to all

Jeff

Jeff i would say PSA and not because this is a PSA board. BVG overgrades and we all know that. There seems to be no standard with them. Percentage wise PSA brings a better profit. I need to study more on this particular card and situation but thats my call. rob

Man ! another sweet looking card !

    I really don't see why that wouldn't cross into a PSA 7 .

    I'd do it in a heartbeat !
  • Greetings Jeff,
I've had Success with 11 out of 11 Crossovers from BVG to PSA - All 8 & 9's. Here is what I think is the Key..... Send the Card in it's BVG Slab askin them to cross it in it's present grade! Almost every card that I thought might grade higher (Craked and sent in!), Came back equal or of a lower grade. Would love to know the out come after if you decide what to do upon it's return.

Me too , I'd love to see what happens with that one .

    Please keep us posted .
  • My experience with PSA, when sending in cards (seeking a crossover to the same, or higher grade) graded from another vendor--still in their holder, is that PSA will send it back ungraded, claiming that "their standards are higher than the other company's"; but then if i crack the card out of the holder and send it in, it usually comes back the same grade, or even higher than before! Seems to be some kind of silly game PSA likes to play. For this Mantle card, it looks like the centering would be mighty close to the limits for a PSA 7.

corner problems as well and could easily come back as evidence of trimming. If you look at the top of the card, corners look sharp but at the bottom corners are dull. Tell tale sign of the ole' trim job at top of card. chaz

I hate to disagree, Chaz, but if that card is not trimmed (and the scratches are on the holder and not the card), that is a 7 all day long.

I'll tell you one thing. I have 6's that are nicer than that card, and I have 8's worse than that card! Heck, I just bought a 1990 Bowman PSA 10 Frank Thomas and it was the WORSE 10 I've ever seen. A bung corner, and a stain! I don't know what to think right now about the graders.

    Good luck!

Solid PSA 6 in my opinion - no doubt about it.

    Doesn't look trimmed to me.
  • I don't know that it's trimmed, but it does have a slight diamond cut. Notice how it goes from a wider border along the top, to narrower, and the bottom border the reverse is true. I don't think it's bad enough to hurt the grade, but the L-R centering looks mighty close to the limits for a '7'.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advise...was hoping for an answer to my original question.

For potential resale purposes down the line, is this card worth more in a BVG 7 holder or a PSA 6 holder (this assumes it crosses to a 6, but would hope for a 7). Since I can only get the last two weeks sales from ebay, not sure how to get this info.

    Thanks Much

    Jeff
  • My 2 cents...

As far as resale, I'd say that a PSA-7 would be best, by far...followed by a BVG-7...followed by a PSA-6.

  • if the red on the left is all red with no print defects (looks like print defects in the photo) then it should be a psa 7. that mick card is pretty common to have the red area with print defects.

to answer your question as far as reselling goes I would say it's worth more in a bvg 7 holder than a psa 6 holder. psa 6 - about $300 range and bvg 7 $450? range

Wrongo, chaz - but definitely. NOT trimmed and should PSA 7 without a problem. The upper corners aren't "razor sharp" and show no evidence of trimming - look more carefully.

Technically, this is also not a diamond cut - the cut is square. True though, a slight angle to the card art itself, but that's pretty typical to some degree and I don't think it distracts here. I would crack and try for a PSA 7.
