autos on Vintage cards....ballpoint, sharpie or thin tip sharpie

Going to be getting some autos on vintage rookies (50s and 60) at show next month, and wanted to get others opinions...Besides obviously, making sure the color choice is correct, do you all prefer ballpoint, thin tip sharpies or regular sharpies on vintage cardboard?

I think you would have to look at they way they autograph. There are some guys that are heavy on a sharpie and their signature gets lost in the ink. For them it would either be a fine sharpie or a very good ball point pen.
  • I agree, Some guys have a heavy hand and others don't. I think if you are going to be buying a auto already signed, Buy the Autograph first, then the card.

Good thoughts. Will have to check out some of there cert autos to determine the heavy hand or not.

I am getting the autos myself, so I have the choice.

Right now, I am leaning toward John Mackey, Lenny Moore and Bobby Mitchell, since there autos and cards (PSA 6-7) will probably total less that $80 each.

Buy a Lumocolor marker, they are German made and you can get a thin tip one. This is what most card companies use. Flow steady and even, you can leave the cap off for 2 days and it will write perfect.

I tend to prefer ballpoint pen signatures on vintage cards, at least whenever possible.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • I HATE ballpoint pen sigs on vintage. They look like crap, get lost in the card. I prefer a nice thinner tip sharpie. The pen Allen mentioned sounds cool too.
