Would This 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle SGC 86 Cross Over To A PSA 8?

Assuming you had the $$$ to purchase it and then the stones to crack it out, do you think this 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle SGC 86 would cross over (or simply submitted raw) to a PSA 8?

1952 Topps Mickey Mantle SGC 86 Auction

My initial thought is no. It looks just a tad off-centered ... too far to the right and too far to the bottom. But what do I know. What do you guys think? If it could somehow find it's way into a PSA 8, $50,000.00 for it is not that unreasonable of a price. A bit high, but not unreasonable.

    In the holder, absolutely not.

I think the the slight off-centering, combined with minute wear on the right corners, would keep it out of a 8 holder. Definitely a lot nicer than most 7s you see. A very strong 7, or a borderline/weak 8.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

In my opinion, if there was ANY chance of that card crossing to a PSA, it would have already done so.

  • I don't know if it would cross or not, but that is one sweet looking card!!!!!image

Nah, some folks stand behind SGC pretty firmly. When you check out the major auction catalogues, you'll see TONS of SGC stuff.

    no shot. corners. chaz
  • My guess is it has already been in a PSA holder 2 or 3 times (just never got the 8 the submitter was praying for)....I've seen worse looking cards in a PSA 8, but it must not be able to get there....would love to own it!!

I agree 100%. It's not being sold by a collector. It's being sold by a dealer. So one would have to assume that this dealer already tried, maybe more than once, to get the card in a PSA 8 holder, which would obviously increase its value.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • I don't think 8 but definitely better than a 7. 7.5 fits this card well. I love the half point system and SGC is as good as PSA IMO. It might not command the dollars PSA does but still an SGC is still an excellent grading company. I'd love to own it. It's still a beauty.

Wow, I would love to have that card. It is more crisp and snow white than most reprints.

I agree with Allen. A very crisp looking Mantle. I like SGC and think they are very close in grading with PSA. I doubt it would grade a PSA 8, but you never know! Great looking card.

Wow, that mantle looks pack fresh! Personally, I'd leave it as is.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • with recent psa subs it comes back a psa 6, just had a sub pop and cannot believe the grades 1 overgraded and 3 will be cracked and resub later on, 2 cards both get a psa 5 one deserves a 3 the other a 7. oh well spilled milk on the floor. unreal

  • If you were the guy who submitted ranges 81727140 to 81727337. Then you probably would get a PSA 10.
