What's the purpose of this place?

Venting...for those of you who have spent more time arguing over petty things on this forum, I'm asking you to stop. I'm not some panty waste wuss that's trying to be all nice and happy and think about rainbows, but this isn't the place for it. This isn't an episode of Jerry Springer. We're supposed to have fun here. Every time I get on this thing some one is pissed at someone else. It's gotta stop guys. I'm not telling you how to run your life, just put things in perspective. Here we are arguing about who knows what when there are bigger fish to fry in this world.
I come here to concentrate on my hobby. I might also add my 10 year old nephew reads these threads and is constantly asking me why grown men act like they are in pre-school? A 10 year old mind you.
Carol~
If you're reading this, I implore you to create an off-topic forum for stuff. I do not believe in censorship, but I do believe in moral judgement and tact. Both of which are sometimes lacking in this forum. I'll be the first to say that I am guilty in life of sometimes not having tact. But, I try.
I'm not going to say, "Can't we all just get along?" because that's not reality. We are going to disagree sometimes. But it should be about whether a card is a PSA 10 or a 9 not about other stuff.
Okay, I've said it. Now, if you want to disect this and persecute, don't waste your time. But, if you really want to think about this, then I would encourage you to do so. You'll be better for it in the end and so will this forum.

This makes good sense.
But, from time to time - this is gonna happen.
If ya go back and look at some of the biggest flame wars here - the players are long gone - ancient history.
I guess it's part of the "charm" of this place?
I will say - the deeply personal attacks can go by the wayside.
People are smart here - they'll sort this out - and people whose presence is not appreciated have a way of disappearing over time - if ya know what I mean.

On other forums I visit there is often a seperate forum for "new to the hobby"...and one for questions for the "expert"
I have a reef tank and on ReefCentral there are invariably very basic questions about lighting, water paramaters, and chemistry. There are moderators with expertise that contribute to the threads . Also, a moderator/administrator moves threads to appropriate forums.
What are the chances that Collectors Universe would have an "expert" ...a representative of PSA etc that could be lurking and answering posts in the "ask the expert" section. All the questions about trimming, for example, could probably be definatively answered by a grader instead of the endless speculation that occurs.
I realize there are many long-time collectors posting here, and a know a moderator from CU drops in to end threads. I also don't think the expert forum would be for endless questions about "why did this sweet card get a 6? type questions .
OK...I'll stop rambling..let the flaming begin....
<< <i>As a sporatic poster, I don't know if this idea is stupid and or already discussed but here goes:

I think CU forums are kinda like: "swim at your own risk"
Although there were some fairly amusing threads there from time to time, there was also an equal number of nutcases that made it profoundly unfun at time.
Lets imagine the following: Mike .... stud that he is...gets another PM account for serious questions. Morons that submit moronic questions to him are blocked by him at his discretion. Questions/topics that are considered worthy by his studness get forwqarded to his PSA contact. Questions/answers and then discussion would all be found in the appropriate "ask the experts" forum.
Given that PSA should be encouraging us.....we are very much a part of their life blood....their going the extra mile would be very cool
But what is equally sad is that your blog has Zero comments!!
I would like to add some comments for you.

Again Blaze that's a great idea.
But, my guess? That would cost money and additional people - not sure if it's ever gonna happen.
I think PSA views this forum the way McDonald's does about their playground area - it's cool, interesting, fun to use but there's no professional supervision?

I do come on here and answer questions regarding services but no one can tell you why a card got a certain grade by a scan. The card would need to be in hand to make that determination.
I would ask that the posters get back on track to discussing the hobby.
