Who are you kidding? What a bone-head statement to say that this is like Nazi Germany.
This is a private board.
Discussions here are limited to sports cards and memorabilia. The Open Forum was shut down because there were too many nutcases that were disruptive.
Seems like there are still many here that prove that point...

While I agree that it was interesting discussion....
1) These are privately owned boards. So, yeah, it IS in fact a dictatorship, and we are ALLOWED to be here. It's not a right. It's a priviledge.
2) It's horrifically off topic. This is the sports CARDS and MEMORABILIA forum. Just labelling a thread "OT" and talking about whatever isn't really cool (and I've even done that myself).
my point confiirmed, thanx jason!!! if not for vets- cu wouldnt be here, and wed all be speaking russian or chinese or german by now schmidt, never argue war with a retired Colonel, youll always lose, you play with your cards, ill defend everybodys right to freedom of speech, even if they are right or wrong-i dont care if they are private boards or not,i didnt have a thing to say about it either way in either one of importance ,-marc i guarantee ya skippy i think i know a llittle bit more about war than you,go playing in the cabinet with your cards kid ,and if cu has anything to say about it, lets rock n roll-not to skeet of you people either
I'm going to throw myself out on limb here, but whatever. While a lot of sideways comments are made, we are mostly comprised of adults on this forum (the kids on this forum seem to behave better than we do). Being so, we all have reasoning ability and we all have our own experiences that shape not only our opinions but our senses of humor. I think TOO MUCH is made of comments that are made to spark critical thinking or simply be farcical on this forum. Much too often, our members are of a mob mentality, reinforcing the same points incessantly, to the point of bashing. I often make ignorant, incorrect, or simply amateur statements on this board, most of which are overlooked as they should be, but oftentimes I'm sure I'm laughed at. While I try to avoid political and moral discussion on this board as much as possible, I've, as we all have, witnessed bashing over hobby related ignorance as well. The point of this board is to educate and facilitate a hobby, but, in a virtual sense, is representative of Saturday morning bullsh*tting at the local barber shop, coffee house, etc.
All in all, all the bashing in the world isn't going to reshape the experiences that have formed the nuances of each of our personalities. In the end, let's just enjoy the hobby.

While we all thank you, and ALL the other vets, for your service you might chill out a little bit. This is a private board and the "nazi's" can do what they want here; be you a vet or not. Luckily, they let us have a pretty broad range of discussion before they step in.
all i wanted to know is why threads were locked? simple question, expected a simople answer larry lol, youll have that though!theyll get over it, so will i,next year lmfao randy
I'll probably regret jumping into this but I believe the entire point being made was that comparing anything done on a message board to the atrocities that were carried out by and in Nazi Germany is not only asinine but offensive to many.
My Father fought in Korea, my Grandfather in WWII. I lost cousins in Vietnam and friends in Desert Storm. I have great appreciation for veterans and give thanks for the freedom that we are afforded. It's that very freedom and appreciation for it that gives me the opportunity to see something written as tasteless and to say so. All the veterans fought for that freedom as well.
Collecting anything and everything relating to Roger Staubach
Just proves its alright for some members to have opinions but others cannot or if their opinions differ the mob then they are in the wrong and are stupid. Last time I checked everyone is entitled to have their own and thanks to our vets we are allowed to voice them within reason.
I think rube was making a reference to censorship. I don't think his analogy was meant to go beyond this point. I certainly did not take it beyond this, although some may view censorship as an atrocity. But, I would agree with jamesryanbell who made the point that this is a private message board and as such, is subject to a certain degree of censorship which is certainly CUs prerogative.

No, this isn't nazi germany...comparing the two is a ridiculous assertion that should be offensive to anyone with a brain. Second, this isn't a public domain, so freedom of speech laws do not apply here. It's a private forum so the owners can employ any restrictions they wish to. Unlike nazi germany, however, you are free to leave and not come back. Nobody denies that the members of our military are important nor are their contributions diminished. But to compare the staff of CU to those who murdered millions is offensive and ridiculous.
i think your reading too much into Rubes response. It does seem silly to lock thread about OJ/ sports memorabilia despite the sideways track they were taking; people are too damn politically correct for their own good.
While everyone makes valid points in their own right, I don't think the topics were blocked because of their being off topic. I think they were blocked because they were becoming hateful. There are many posts, labeled OT and otherwise, that may technically have no business being on a sports card forum and go unchecked, fading into the annals of this forum. The debates simply became too heated.
PM(s) received from people about this == reasons why I won't post anymore on this thread.

I know you were just providing us with a little irony with your statement - I agree with those who believe that the Mods provide us with quite a bit of latitude.
You were not here when the Open Forum was a constant source of excitement and pain for the Mods.
I'm not tryin' to be a defender - but mikeschmidt is one of the good guys.
And I do know - at times - it appears a bit much what we can and cannot say.

exactly how is a moderated, private chat board comparable to Nazi Germany?

This is a private board. Like it or not freedom of speech does not apply to these boards. There are plenty of boards where anything goes so I would suggest saving these type of posts for those boards.
I locked the topic and will lock this one and expect that another not be started.
At this point this discussion has moved away from any semblance of how this affects sports, card market or memorabilia market.
