The 1st card(s) you bought/sold on Ebay

Does anyone remember when they purchased/sold their first cards on Ebay?

1st card I sold was an ungraded Maris rookie (probably about a 5 or 6) back in 1999 for $50. I had 0 feedback and didn't even have a scan.
1st card I finally won was an ungraded 1971 Aaron which became a PSA 6. I paid $22 back in 2001.

I don't remember the first card sold. I do remember the first that I bought. I bought a 1987 Fleer Update Set for $4 plus shipping. I thought that was an absolute steal. By the way, I still have it just for nostalgia's sake. That was 2001.

i don't remember the exact card but i remember buying a psa 7 pudge heffelfinger 1955 all american as one of my first cards. i had bought a raw bertelli earlies from an auction, but this heffelfinger was sharp and beautiful and got me started on completing the set in graded condition. i still love that card

after thinking about it i believe the 1st thing i ever sold was a 1932 cavete island license plate for 400.00 to a philippino doctor

i was right-I WANT IT BACK lol!!!
  • first sales i think were a handful of PSA mid-grade 50's Bowman baseball commons i got from a friend, i remember it like it was yesterday, my first eBay auctions WOO-HOO! but i had forgotten to activate the part of my PayPal account which accepts the payments, and someone tried to pay immediately after they won an item so that was kinda funny image

i purchased a raw '62 Topps Drysdale All-Star around that time for like 9 bucks + shipping, and got a PSA 8 on it.....sold for 40 bucks or so....i was thrilled with this accomplishment and ran out to put a down payment on a yacht, as i knew that the future was bright and there should be plenty of great raw material to buy on eBay for years to come! image
  • My first purchase was in 2005 when I bought a lot of raw 1964 Topps Giants. My first card sold on eBay has not occurred yet, but I am currently going through my collection and will start selling some soon.

I have only sold two cards from my collection by any means. I sold a 1950 Babe Ruth card used to advertise Connie Mack's book for $300 at a local show and I sold a 2004 SPX Albert Pujols Superscripts card at the National this year.

I had to check my eBay account to see when I joined, apparently February 27, 1998. That would have made me 14, I must have fudged on my age a little bit.

I can't truly remember what my first eBay purchase was, but it was most certainly a modern Frank Thomas card of some sort. I do, however, remember my first sell.

I put together a 900 count box full of modern inserts and rookies, sold the lot as one. I made a whopping $22 and decided never to sell in that large of a lot ever again.

I remember, as a young teen, begging my father to invest in eBay when it went public. It was somewhere around $1.27 a share if I remember correctly, most certainly under $2.00. He didn't invest. I kick him in the ass for that whenever possible.

I am not sure about the first card I bought. I think the first card I sold was a Hand Aaron Heritage auto.

The first thing I bought on ebay was a 1:24 scale Buckshot Jones Aquafresh diecast in July 1998.

First card bought was a 1967 Topps Lance Alworth in 1999, the last card I needede for my set. This was the first card I had purchased for at least 5 years. Ever since then I'm a full-on collecting addict again.

don't remember the first sold but one of the first purchased was an alcindor rookie raw. i sent it in for grading (was on my first 6-card submission and of course i wasn't supposed to send that size card in with the membership subs). however, it came back a 3. i complained to the seller because it was listed as NM. seller offered refund, i sent the card he kept it all and was eventually naru'd.... image

looking back, that was pretty quick turnaround on a membership sub.

oh well, live and learn. i regret sending it back to the seller as i would like to have it for my collection. i do remember, some of the card was "colored" on with an ink pen and i did not receive an MK qualifier nor did i notice it until it was returned from psa....and it did have a faint crease.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

  • I've been a member of eBay since the beginning (when it was www.ebay.com/auctionweb), but I didn't delve into card purchases until 1999. And even then it was sparing. I bought some A-Rod 94/95's. Don't recall all of them, but there was an SP and SP diecut RC in there.

A money crunch in 2000 led me to slab them with Beckett and resell them. Made a couple hundred bucks in profit on 9's, but in hindsight, I wouldn't mind having them back *grin*

Just looked it up in my paypal account - first card bought was a '57 Topps Ted Williams from some guy named Dennis Skerbe, lol. Never realized I bought that card from a hobby 'somebody' (or a relative of hobby somebodies). Card was listed as EX-MT and was later mistakenly sent to BVG, who gave it a 4 (murdered me with the centering sub-grade). Probably should have been a 5.

I don't remember what I bought first, but it was most likely a lot of raw vintage football cards. At some point I started selling my excess cards, and I remember one of my first buyers was wolfbear. I didn't have a scanner at first, and at some point I thought it would be a good $49 investment.

I started my web site in 2001, after eBay raised its fees. Wow, was that only 6 years ago?

  • Bought a '69 Topps Carew PSA 6. Had no idea how to get the thing out of the holder. After a month or so, I guess I realized it was supposed to stay in the plastic thing.

Also bought '72 and '73 partial sets. Still have 'em. Very nice cards.

  • I bought a couple lots of 1948 Bowman football first. My first individual card was a 1948 Bowman FB Mac Peebles. I think that was in 2000.

The first card that I sold on eBay was a T206 Bud Sharpe SGC 50, maybe in 2004?
