How accurate are the Population reports?

Just skimming through them checking on a few things, and one card inparticular I am looking for 1988 Topps Dalton Hilliard PSA 9 or 10, and according to the Pop reports only 1 9 exists and 0 10s and if I recall correctly only 1 graded. I somehow find this hard to believe with as many people that are building complete graded sets nowadays.

  • I know a few Seau populations that are incorrect. 1995 Topps Jaguars Inaugural comes to mind.

The pop reports are usually updated a few days behind a submission. If the pop is off, it is going to be high, not low (assuming it'll be updated within a couple of days).

I've always assumed population reports on modern 8s and 9s to be a little inflated because of cracks and resubs. I mean, who is going to crack a 10? As for under-inflated reports, that's puzzling, other than failure to update.

thanks guys for the feedback. I am just starting on a couple of Basic Sets of a few players, some of which seems like there are not many graded out there, so it looks like I am going to have to submit myself and hope for decent grades.

I have run into the same thing. There are not many graded cards for my Phil Garner collection, however on the other hand not a lot of competition and cheaper prices for the cards.
