Beware of this eBay buyer!

eBay buyer "jsims3613" bought a Brooks Robinson autographed bat from me on August 7th and tried to pay me via PayPal from an unconfirmed address. I refunded his payment letting him know that I do not accept PayPal from buyers with an unconfirmed address and reminded him that it states so (twice) within my listing. I told him that he could confirm his address with PayPal and re-send payment or he could send payment via check or money order. A few days go by and he tries to pay via PayPal again, still with an unconfirmed address. Again, I refunded his payment and explained to him once again that I do not accept PayPal from buyers with an unconfirmed address. He emailed me back a couple of days later and said that he was working with PayPal to get his address confirmed. (Come on, this only takes 5 minutes). Finally, on 8/23 he sends payment once again from PayPal, but this time his addess is confirmed. I mailed his bat a couple of days later and thought that was the end of it. Then today I get an email from him that states, "Where is the bat?" That's all he wrote. I had sent the bat with delivery confirmation so I checked on the USPS website and it shows that is was delivered on 9/4/2007. I emailed him back, gave him the tracking number and told him that he already received the bat and that I was forwarding his email to eBay and PayPal as I had proof that it was mailed and delivered. This guy tries to pay from an unconfirmed address twice, finally pays after over 2 weeks and now claims that he hasn't received it when the DC shows otherwise. I smell a scam, but I won't be his victim!

  • I have an unconfirmed address, but I always pay up. I dont buy high dollar items, so maybe that is why nobody has given me problems. Would you sell to me?

Knowing you from the boards, YES. However, if I didn't know you and you bid on one of my items, then it just depends on the size of the purchase - but usually not.

should have given him a few of these options when he asked where the bat was:

1: Look in the hall closet, there's where I usually leave my bat

    2: Check your pants

3: Don't you remember hitting your wife with it? Perhaps the police took it as evidence you drunken jackass

4: Hanging on the wall in the den, right where you put it

5: I believe I saw your son using it in his little league game

Confirming an address with Paypal is very easy to do. I don't kno why anyone would not want to do that, especially since many sellers will not accept payments from unconfirmed addresses because there is NO protection from Paypal then if they do.

Ebay/PayPal truly are a bunch of weasel bastiges. They could easily somehow with some software adjustment connect an ebay auction to PayPal and allow sellers to bar unconfirmed PayPal addresses from bidding/buying if the seller so chooses...but they don't want to do it because evidentally they figure it would cost them money. Well it's aggravating as heck to many of us sellers! image

Absolutely agreed! If eBay can make PayPal only auctions where you have to have a PayPal acount to bid, then they could restrict bidders who don't have a confirmed PayPal address.

I have some lower priced auctions with almost no cost in the product so I don't mind the unconfirmed addresses and in fact I've never been stiffed by anybody. But I've also got some higher priced auctions and a lot of money tied up in the product and no way am I gonna ship to an unconfirmed address. Yes, I could still take the buyer to small claims court if they scammed me, but it isn't worth it and I might not even win in small claims court anyway.

I've gone through the exact same BS you've gone through with refunding money to PayPal buyers with unconfirmed addresses, and then having to give them a "course" on what the F* to do - that should be PayPal's job not mine!

I can certainly understand why some sellers don't take PayPal, but to me even with the aggravation, it still is best to accept PayPal rather than not accept it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if this item sold for more than $250 and you didn't get a signature confirmation, and the buyer says he didn't get it, you are basically automatically f*ed.

And if the item sold for $251, you are not f*ed for only $1, you are f*ed for $251. Anything under $250 and just delivery confirmation is okay with a confirmed address.
