Could it be the yellowed tape underneath the shrinkwrap? Neither of which were on the set when it left the factory? Also, either the bottom of the front is crushed, or whoever shrinkwrapped that thing didn't know what they were doing.
  • he's missing the 'god bless you'. i think he covered everything else

the yellow tape could be an original. topps did tape them back in the day. if it was sitting near sun it could have yellowed. but they were never wraped.

corrrect on the tape. I bought about 10 of them back in 1994 or so, and all were taped. either from the factory--or the original owner. Not sure on the shrink wrap, tho. Some people routinely wrapped their stuff in shrink wrap, tho.

Probably post-market shrink wrap. Not that there's anything wrong with that (bbcexchange shrink wraps their unopened material)... but to advertise it as being done by Topps, well, that's either ignorance or deception.

I know I know!!! Topps didn't make cards back in 1982! Clearly this box is fake.

tape and shrink wrap is the equivalent of wearing a belt & suspenders

Like Bob said, Topps never shrink wrap the traded sets.

To everyone who said it's got fake shrinkwrap:

WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!! image This reminds me of an early 1994 Beckett Baseball article (which was like a hobby 101 article) where the author reported seeing shrinkwrapped 1984 Donruss factory sets, which Donruss did not start doing until 1991.

The moral of the story is this, before buying any kind of unopened material, be sure you know what the factory seal looked like that year, if there was one at all.

. the traded sets came with tape and many have turned yellow over the years.

he never said it was factory shrink wrapped. HE (not topps) wrapped all his sets to prevent water damage.

nothing is wrong with this set.

I think he might have changed the listing as I dont remember him saying that he wrapped it but rather it has been in this condition since the day he bought it. though i might be wrong.
