GAI crossover to PSA

Hi all,
I may purchase an older 1955 Topps AA FB card which is graded GAI 8. What do these typically cross over to in PSA grade? Anyone have any past expereince?
Thank you,
Danny

If you do crack it it will probably come back a 7, but could be a 6 or an 8. Pretty much a crapshoot, depending on who graded it. Hopefully you are getting it at a discount of a PSA 7, at the least.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

<< <i>you'll have to crack it out first. If you don't odds are that it will come back evid of trim.

Why do you say that it will come back trimmed? That is so amateurish. GAI and Mike Baker are a good team. Keep it real will you? I had a nice 57' Mantle GAI 8 #407 and sent it right in to PSA. It had a questionable upper left corner on the back of the card but it crossed to a PSA 8. chaz
Just crossed today...I cracked them out of the holders and submitted raw.
The GOOD
48 Bowman Bill Dudley RC GAI 6.5 to SGC 7.5
50 Bowman Johnny Lujack GAI 6.5 to SGC 7
50 Bowman Sammy Baugh GAI 6 to SGC 7
50 Bowman Bob Waterfield GAI 7 to SGC 7
51 Bowman Steve Van Buren GAI 6 to SGC 6
The BAD
56 Topps Joe Perry PSA 5 to SGC 5
53 Bowman Marion Motley SGC 5 to SGC 5 (I thought it would be higher)
50 Bowman Sid Luckman GAI 6 to SGC 5
The UGLY
55TAA Knute Rockne PRO 9 to evidence of trimming (gee.what a surprise)
55 Bowman Joe Perry GAI 8 to SGC 5 (damnsurface wrinkle that GAI must have missed)
this was my first major cross over attempt....pretty satisfied with most...the Rockne hurts..but let's face it..I am not surprised..it was a PRO!

<< <i>ok, this is a $200 plus card so I was wanting to send it in as a cross-over grade instead of cracking it. hmmm. >>
Send it in and don't crack it. Look at it yourself and be conservative in your pregrade. Do you have an 80 % probability that it will cross? If so, go for it. chaz
<< <i>I have close to zero confidence in anything in GAI holders. I have had too many bad experiences, as have too many of my collecting friends. >>
I guess I am pretty lucky with my experiences with GAI....(see above crossover results) All I can speak of is my experience with GAI, and I have had no problems crossing them over.

Thanks for the info as I've never dealt with GAI graded cards. I'll have to think on it a day!

I've based it on about a dozen submissions of GAI holders that came back evid of trim, and then graded when cracked out. I think Mike Baker is an excellent grader and a great guy- I also think PSA is prejudiced about GAI holders based on my experience and that of a lot of others.

What you say as I understand it, is a bias against GAI by PSA?. With regards to GAI ( I am not crazy about their holders (last of the big 4 grading companies), no population report, no collectors board on their website, a very slow and difficult to navigate card pricing chart and a rather mundane website design). Most of the respondents however on this thread have had a satisfactory experience with GAI. chaz
If you want to send it in crack it out!

My ebay listings
Did an experiment a while back with a card (also included Beckett and SGC). Over the course of a year I submitted the same Non Sport card 4 times (Cracked out). Started out just wanting to cross it over to PSA but after getting it back from them decided to see what a couple of the other Grading Services thought.
Bought in GAI Holder MINT 9
PSA Evidence of Trimming
Beckett MINT 9
SGC 96
So was the card trimmed? Not from anything that I could see or any of the other Grading Services- Just PSA wanting more money to Re-Submit the same card !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PSA has gone around the bend on there Evidence of Trimming. I just opened a Cello and a Wax of 1961 Nu-Cards Dinosaur cards= 14 cards. 13 were worthy of submission. I got them back, 5 were Evidence of Trimming. I can guarantee you when I re-submit them as part of some other submission they will come back Holdered. This I speak of from experience.
3-5 years ago I would see an Evidence of Trim on maybe 1 out of 50-100 cards. Now days basically submitting the same era cards and quantity's I am seeing somewhere around a %10-15 percent ratio. BS!!!!!!!!
Steve
Now if I crack them out myself and submit them, the chances are I might get a 6, they rarely give 8's on vintage cards.

Excellent Points !!! chaz
I have had the occasional card rejected for evid of trim and they always graded the next time thru. But I wasn't trying to slip anything by, and I inspected it closely in the first place.

And as I said above, I used to have the occasional card rejected for Evid of Trim, nowdays its almost guaranteed to be part of any submission. Same cards, Same Grading Standards, Same Era, Same Quantities and without exception if sent the next time will be Holdered. As mentioned in my last post, as an example on the Dino cards, I measured all of them and there was a little variance from card to card but they all came from the same Cell and Wax and back then the manufacturing standards were crap. And to just illustrate the point I have been opening Cello and Wax from the Dino set for at least 7-8 years and have done 30-40 Cello and 30-40 Wax. 3-5 years ago when I was doing this I would submit 13-14 cards form the lot and 100% would come back graded. Today same 13-14 from the lot, 3-7 come back as evidence of trim. Once again BS BS BS....... Defend them (PSA) all you want- Not defensible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
