I like when people post signs in the grass at my accounts. You would be surprised how well a finely tuned mower will turn those things into hundreds of nice little shreds that fly down the road in traffic

I have thought about putting an ad/classified in my local paper or Pennysaver type paper looking for fellow collectors in my area. The ad would say something like : Looking for fellow collectors to Buy, Sell, trade or show off their collections.
I have yet to do it, but will one day.

Here is one example of how that works. Back in February, I ran an errand for my church. We were going to pass out some nice plaques for some the men on the building commitee after finishing our new Christian school building and gym. I went to the local trophy place and ordered them. Before leaving, I asked the owner, "Hey, do you know anybody that has any old baseball cards." He told me he did and gave me his number. Turns out, he basically had a museum in his basement. I found out that this man was HOF'er Freddie Linstrom's nephew. He wanted to get rid of all of his card, but he was keeping his memorbilia. After about 4 hours of looking through his cards and negotiating, I bought his entire colletion. I made my money back plus a bunch more within a month. This was back in February, and I still have much of the collection (including complete sets from 1970 and up.
All of this by word of mouth - and that's not the first time.

Another one I have thought was maybe laundrymats bulletin boards, apt. complex bulletin boards in the rec room and same for Condos/retirement homes. I would assume the later 2 would produce old cards. I recently moved into a Condo. Everyone around me is really old. Hopefully one day I'll get that "Hey kid, look what I have." And hopefully its not to show me he forgot to put on pants.
is this your ad:
im trying to build a sports card collection for my son. Im looking for any sports cards that date PRE 1980's 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's. Of course i would love anything earlier that that too. Im not flipping these im just trying to do something cool for my son. Please give me a call if you have any that you would like to sell or know of anyone who might have some they would like to get rid of. Baseball, basketball, hockey, football it does not matter. I will respond very quickly with a phone call or e-mail and I have cash. Thanks again.
No. I tried it a few years ago. Too busy to do it these days.
