Postal Money Order Question

I just won an auction in which the seller takes money orders only. The interesting thing about it is that the seller states that he will send some bonus cards if I use a Postal money order. He has a feedback rating of 600+ with 99.8%. Why is it to his advantage for me to send a postal money order? Just curious since I don't remember ever seeing this before.

He's probably been burnt a few times by accepting PayPal payments... a lot of people can't be bothered to get a money order/mail it to a seller so he's probably throwing in bonus cards to entice these people to bid anyway whom normally wouldn't.

  • Because he can just go and cash it at the post office (usually when he mails the card) rather than have to deposit it somewhere to be cashed...

I didn't think about this option, but you're probably right. I think I'm going to go get a postal money order and spend the extra $1.05 just to see what he sends in return.

  • Aside from going to the PO and cashing it many banks hold money orders like chaecks, but they will usually cash PO money orders with no hold.

I've actually had several sellers tell me they only accept Postal MO's because there are a lot of fake MO's out there. I didn't know there was a MO black market but apparently so. By the way these sellers all turned out to be legit.
  • Actually the Postal Money order is the most commonly faked one out there, but it is also the easiest to detect and the PO can usually tell right away.

Rube, couldn't you use those Euro's when you go to Europe this Fall to watch the leaves change colors.
  • Just got back from Europe. That "funny" money is worth $70.00 US! If your customer did not account for the exchange you're money ahead even after exchanging it. BTW, that "funny" money is used by more people than the US dollar.

Another reason may be that if he has a business account on Paypal, he is avoiding the 3% hack Feepal adds on top of Feebay's costs
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
