How do you respond to this?

I rec'd a paypal payment today and on the bottom, the buyer writes this note I do leave negative FB for s/h fees that are designed to circumvent ebay fees (when s/h fees are <70% of the actual s/h cost).

Well, he can kiss my hairy butt. That ticked me off at first. I feel like I want to respond, but still do it in a professional manner. $4 for first graded card, and $1 for each extra. He bought 2 graded cards. I charged him $5 for shipping to Canada.....double cardboard padding in rubber band and in bubble mailer. I don't think my shipping is that bad, and haven't had any complaints. It's stated clearly in description. Why post a message like that? I wonder if it's automatic with every purchase he makes? Maybe this is a scare tactic, cos I looked at his f/b and he's at 100% in the upper 300s. I haven't responded.....yet....or should I even bother?

If you use Paypal shipping and print out your own shipping labels, there is an option to not have the total fee printed on the label. That way he'll never know for sure. I would just laugh at it and let it go.

well how much did you pay for shipping?

i can understand his point though. I have gotten my share of plain white envelopes with a 39 cent stamp and a piece of paper around the card. yet i paid $5 for shipping. i dont think that anyone can justify the $5 fee for that type of shipping.

now the way you said you sent it i wouldnt complain at all.

i would respond to him with the price you paid in postage which is probably close to $3.50 to Canada plus the extra effort.

I have printed out thru paypal but I can't here because with paypal and as well as thru USPS.com, you can only print postage starting from International Priority Mail Flat Rate and higher. That starts at $9.00 to Canada, and he's in the middle. I have to basically send this one First Class International which is just about under $3, not including the mailer, and 15 drops of gas to the post office image

I do not understand why people get so fired up about shipping prices, I always just factor it into my bid. I cannot understand why some people are so petty.

    Maybe he's an ebay shareholder.
Like the previous posts, shipping, etc should be factored in to your buying price. If it's too high, don't buy it.

Exactly. No one put a gun to his head and forced him to bid....not just 1, but 2 auctions.

get a nice high grade vintage card in a psa holder that is cracked in half because some seller shipped it in a regular envelope with 80 or less cents of postage on the outside and you paid $4 or $5 to ship it and see how you feel then. happened to me 3 times and it does tick me off.

    Respond:
    Before I ship...Why %70? Why not %75 or %63.5???

If I come in somewhere in the mid to high sixties...do I get a pass?

What if I told you that I pay extra for envelopes because they are still made in America from my hometown...you DO support American workers...DONT YOU?

My shipping terms were printed clearly in the auction so there is no mystery as to how much I ask for shipping....would you like a refund?

    Isn't "s/h" "Shipping and Handling"?

If that's the case, tell him he's getting a discount on the handling part. image

look at his feedback left and see how many times he actually has left negatives? Also keep in mind if he uses paypal there really isn't any way to prove the card got there, you're just looking to lose with that seller.

I agree with this, plus if you are running a business small or large 0 worker to 100 workers or more if your paying someone to pack and label items and then ship them you have to figure your overhead in. supplies, rent, insurance ect ect ect. example I just bought 6 PSA graded cards for 24 + S?H which was 9.00 27 % of my cost is in shipping that is a ok with me, this means I only paid 1.50 ea for shipping and I know the seller so they will come packaged properly w/ DC. Did it cost 9.00 from USPS ? no , but I understand they have unseen overhead that most people donot think about or are even aware of. Let's face it, this hobby to most of us is just that a hobby but to others it is their job / business. this is something that will not change. Does anybody think that PSA does not make money from grading cards? Yes there are the few out there in Ebay land that do overcharge excessively for shipping (most don't) , If it's too high, don't buy it. JMHO PS send the package and don't leave feedback until he does! Then put him on your blocked bidder list! image

What I love is the people who complain that a professionally packed item, well protected, timely shipped, and one that arrives in the desired condition will complain about a $2.00 shipping charge, but do not even care how bad Feebay is raping them for every nickel they get.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • Send the card and a note -----If you whine more than 70% of our conversation I leave negative fb.

Would his "threat" be condidered FB harassement, possibly forcing you to lower your fees to avoid a neg? For kicks Id try to file a complaint on him to stop his "Im the boss" attitude.

Couldn't agree more. If the shipping prices are posted, and you bid, you are agreeing to the entire transaction. if you think a shipping price is excessive, don't bid. It's quite simple, and I continue to be dumbfounded why people get worked up over shipping prices.

Buyers have to look at the shipping charge and be aware of what it will cost to ship. I have got the shaft a few times paying outrageous shipping but it was my fault for not looking. What people don't take into consideration in shipping is time and materials. Bubble mailers, card sleeves, postage, time at the post office, gas to get there. In the end sometimes your $3.50 shipping fee didnt cover the sellers time/materials. Just my 2 cents.

yeah case in point this auction I won... look at the shipping price... but also look at the final ending price.

guy charged $8 for shipping but I bid accordingly... no big deal to me, got the card and I was happy.

Figures, the dumba$$ who jacked you up on shipping is not far from me.
    Looking for Carl Willey items.
  • I always look at the seller's shipping cost and bid accordingly.

What irks me though, is when the mailer and the amount of shipping shown on the label clearly fall well below the shipping costs I paid.

$5 for one card that's well packed in bubble mailer sent first class with delivery confirmation, OK. Heck, $6 or $7, OK when I REALLY want the card(s).

$5 and the mailer is flimsy or he charged me for insurance/delivery confirm but didn't actually add those services, NO.

I'm a reasonable person though, at least I'd like to think so. If I pay a little more for shipping but the item is safely packed and insured, that's fine. If I pay a little more and I get a tiny mailer with 80 cents postage, I'm going to make sure not to buy from that seller again.

I bought a 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan RC from someone on eBay last year. I think I paid $15 shipping. They put the PSA slab into a bubble mailer, then wrapped the mailer in another sheet of bubble wrap, and placed all that into a box, and shipped it priority insured. To me, that was $15 well spent...
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

I shipped out his package today. I'm not saying a word to him.
I looked at f/b he left for others, and everyone of them he discusses about shipping lol. He did give one neg to a guy who he paid $4 to and rec'd in a white env. with a .51 cent stamp on it. I have not left feedback. I'll find out in 10 days or so.
