What are your thoughts on this 1971 Topps Hank Aaron?

I bought a bunch of 70's sets from a man locally. I was going through them and ran across this 1971 Topps Hank Aaron. I have measured and compared it to others and I am 99.9% sure it is not trimmed. It is not marked in any way. There are no wrinkles or stains of any kind. The back is centered and clean. What do you think it will grade? Is it worth the $13 to do the 5 day deal? Your thoughts are appreciated. Go ahead and get it out of the way, Chaz, and shoot it down and tell me it's a PSA 3. image

    Probably a 6-7 tweener.

I'd give it a 7. I've seen cards in similiar condition get this grade. I think it's just a tad to nice to be a 6.

Unless you are in a hurry I'd wait for a '70s special. $8 is $8.

Thanks for your opinions, keep 'em coming. I know it's hard to tell the condition sometimes from a scan. Having seen this card upclose I really think it is a lock 7 if the grader has hemorrhoids that day. If he used Preparation H, it has a real good shot at an 8.

  • Compared to my PSA 8 Hank, it looks the same. Nice snag!
    I NEED HANKS!!!
  • I have some 8's that look far worse. I say a good shot at 8.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

    Top corners a solid 8. Bottom corners a 6-7. I'd say a 7 overall.

Wow, if only getting the other 751 cards that nice was that easy. image

But my grade would be 6-7ish; easy 8 if it weren't for those bottom two soft corners.

    It came with some sets. I gave $2,500 for 1970, 71, 72, 73, 74, and 75 Topps Sets.

I would agree that the major flaw it the 2 bottom corners. I would, however, disagree slightly with some that say that the top 2 corners are 8's. You may not agree, but I really believe that those top 2 corners are strict MINT.

  • I think those bottom corners are going to keep you in the 6-7 range, don't think there's a shot at an 8.

If I remember correctly, Cravetopps wouldn't have had a 7 in his set. I'm geussing this is a scan of one of his cards, so I'll say 8.

IMO both Cravetopps and Frankhardy's should be 7's

I'll go with the consensus. A 7, maybe an 8 if the guy had some good paella the night before.

    Better than a 6 , most likely a 7
I feel an 8 is a reach though but not completely impossible .
Nice score , nice card , how is the back ?

IIRC, someone recently posted a Blyleven 8 that seemed to be a bit of a 'tweener also.

    7 or 8.

I sent this in a while back and got an 8.

I don't think it will 8 but you never know with PSA. I've graded several hundred '71s and I only get 60-70% 8's on cards I feel are strong candidates. Usually if they have white showing on two corners, it's much tougher to pull an 8.

By the way, double check the upper right corner. It's hard to tell from the scan but it almost seems like it's recolored. It could just be the way the corner shows in the scan.
  • frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,169 ✭✭✭✭✭
    I checked - it's not recolored.

  • Nice card; looks like a 7 to me, but if you get the same grader who graded this, it will be a 6...
