What should I do with my 1975 OPC baseball wax pack wrapper?

Can a wrapper be graded?
Is there a market for these?

  • Burn it, that way no resealers get a hold of it.

Unless you plan to keep it for your own collection, I'd trash it. Fraudulent people take empty waxes and reseal them with handpicked, jacked up common card stock. Therefore, do not try to profit off of empty wax, or you're supplying the means for countless people to get duped.

I happen to collect empty wax, but I'll keep just one example of any given product during any given year. I keep them flat in mylar pages in a binder.

Otherwise, don't aid and abed the fraudulent.

To address your other inquiry, only factory sealed wax packs with undisturbed cards can be graded. Any pack with evidence of resealing or tampering of any kind will not make the grade.

I disagree. There are a lot of guys who collect wrappers and a 75 OPC is a tough one to come by. Plus, a 75 OPC pack only sells for about $40-50, so it's not really worth it for a guy to spend $10 on the wrapper and $5 for singles to make $30 (plus they gotta find the gum). Those guys tend to buy wrappers and singles in bulk unless it's a high dollar item.

Agree with Lee here. Wrappers are collectable, like anything else card-related. We should never make concessions just because someone may or may not use an item to defraud someone else.

  • As an OPC set collector, I collect the full set of cards, any variations, the empty box (folded and pressed so it fits in the binder), three unopened packs, and all wrapper variations... OPC usually had 2-4 variations per year. Please don't trash it. I'll take it if you're going to do that.

Has anyone given the option for building a bar top yet?
