2 large photos. Results of my 248.00 "Rip" from BBEXCH

I pulled out the stars from the packs and the few cards from SMR from the 89UD box. Sorry for the crap pics but my scanner is a huge POS.

who evers buys the next few 89 UD low boxes, if they are from the same case will be quite pissed off i am sure. i remember opening tons of packs and never getting a Griffey. The only two that I have came from factory sets.

I only pulled 1 Griffey from 2 low number boxes back in 1989. However, I did pull (no lie) 40 Don Aase cards from those 2 Upper Deck boxes. I got 18 in one and 22 in the other. Really ticked me off back then.......and even now when I think about it.

so you guys are saying I did damn good on the UD box?

Those 89 UD were supposed to be randomly inserted. That is a bunch of bull. You never know what you are going to get, that is true. But the quantities of a few cards were outrageous. About two years ago I opened a case of 89 UD hi#, I pulled about 15 griffeys from three boxes and that was all I got. I did get about 150 Omar Vizquel rookies however. image Everything else was pretty much normal. I guess the Vizquel's were better than milbroco's Aase's.

I think the 79 Reggie and the 86 Steve Young look great as well.

Wasn't Griffey supposedly in "x" pack down in "x" column?

Not sure about the 89 baseball, but I know the 90-91 basketball could be searched. The packs were randomly inserted, but if you opened the top pack, you could immediately know where the L Johnson and Mutombo RC's were. Back then they were selling for $10 each. Although that information is useless now as they are a buck at most

I am not sure about that but I have heard on two seperate occasions back in the mid 1980's that the Montana rookie would be in 1 of 6 centain packs in a wax box. I never tested that though as I never wanted to pay the price for 6 packs.

  • The 1989 UD low numbers to find the Griffey you had to open the first pack of each row on top. I cannot remember excatly how many rookies were in the set but say there were 20 if the first pack of the row was #18 Griffey was in the 4th pack in that row.. Number 12 then Griffey was the last pack in the box.

Griffeys were rare in high number boxes when you did get them you usually got several I pulled 2 from the same pack in 1989 in a box I opened. Ended up with 6 in the box.

Check the SS on Sheffields cards error and variety collects love that card as well.
