Coolest autograph you have in your collection...

For me it would have to be an autographed picture of Bart Starr from 1965 that was signed to my dad when he was 8 years old. He signed it "Dear Drew, thanks for being my friend, Bart Starr". I think that is pretty neat. Ill try to get a pic up later. Anyone else have any unique/favorite autographs like this one?

  • I have several porn star autographs that have pretty good inscriptions on them.
Casey St James is my favorite though. When I got it she said I am going to write the dirtiest thing I can think of and was blushing as she did it.

I have a Bart Starr signed Miller coaster that says "To Jay" Bart Starr. Nice auto. Maybe I should get it slabbed. Ahh the days of seeing some of these guys at a dinner function and being able to walk up and get an autograph, talk to them, shake their hand etc.

My fav is an Alex Rios (i'm a big Blue Jay fan) signed baseball. The cool thing about it is it's a gold baseball from this years homerun contest that he actually hit out of the park.

I posted this before. A handwritten letter by Willis Hudlin from 1997, about his giving up Babe Ruth's 500th career homer back in 1929.

Hudlin was fairly old when her wrote this letter to me, so a transcription for his scrawl:

"The Babe had his good years about the same time I had mine. Yes, he hit his 500 HR off me 8/11/29 in Cleveland. It was a sinker ball that he hit. The Babe did not have much luck vs. me - in 9 yrs he only got a total of 5 HR's off of me.

    With all good wishes,
    Willis Hudlin"

I imagine my coolest is my Bobby Thompson letter. Full page letter describing what he was thinking when he made the Shot Heard Around the World.

I posted it before, but here it is:

I think my most expensive would be my Mantle signed litho, and my most sentimental my Stan Musial that me and my dad got in person about 15 years ago.

I have two that I want to mention. Many of you know my first - my avatar - a pair of game used Albert Pujols signed batting gloves from his record breaking month of April 2006. According to the foundation, those are the only pair that they released in 2006.

The next one that I want to mention (actually 3 that go together) is a Monty Stratton index card, James Stewart index card, and June Allyson index card. For those of you that have never seen the 1941 movie called "The Stratton Story", I think it is a "must see" for a baseball fan. It has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid. It is based on the true story of Monty Stratton. He was a pitcher in the 1930's for the White Sox. He was a very good pitcher who pitched for a few years and then lost his leg in a hunting accident. He made a minor league comeback with a prosthetic leg. The movie starred Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson. I plan on getting some sort of photograph of movie poster and having it along with the index cards framed. I just haven't done it yet.

I've posted these before in similar threads. They're pretty scarce considering he was killed in 1978. I've seen a few others of the Topps, never another SSPC.

Probably Ted Williams. I have him on my 500HR club bat, and also on a MLB baseball.

  • When “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” first came out , Bill White was giving it to Phil
Rizzuto pretty good about his recording career. I had recently picked up a 78 rpm recording of
Mel Allen doing “Casey at the Bat” and on the other side was a recording of Phil Rizzuto,
Roy Campenella ,Tony Lazzari, and Ralph Branca ? doing a song called “The Umpire”. I wrote
to WPIX explaining what I had, offering to make a tape of it and send it to them figuring it would
make , if nothing else, good radio. I sent along a letter sized SASE . I received this photo with no
    note.

It may not be the coolest , but today it is my favorite

Ball I got signed when I was at Ted Williams baseball camp in 1980. Had a few of them - sold them, traded them, etc. Gave one to my dad and got it back when he died in 2004. He died 2 months after seeing his lifelong dream of the Red Sox finally winning the World Series. It means more to me than any other signature I could ever get.

This may not be the coolest I have, but it's my current favorite. Met El Tiante at a Sox game a few weeks back sitting at a concession stand. Took the time to chat and signed one of these for me. He keeps copies on him whenever he's at the park for giving to fans who recognizes him. Great guy.

  • I always liked this one...on the front is a letter for the football almanac asking ken strong about plays from the giants' championship squad in '35...on the back he drew out the plays.

  • I was at a card show in the early 90's with Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Yaz and Dwight Evans. I wisely DIDNT have Evans sign the ball (he was ALWAYS a jerk in person & there was no chance he was gonna go to the HOF) Yaz is on the sweet spot, Doerr got no attention at the show and was sitting alone when we went to get the signature; so he was very chatty (and hungry) so we bought him a slice of pizza.

Ted was grumpy and annoyed (his usual card show demeanor) and was taking stuff signing it, and literally shoving it off the table, bouncing the balls right back at the people. Folks were very sheepish and didnt say a peep to him.

Fortunately I had a plan image My dad had worked summers at the Ted Williams baseball camp here in Lakeville Mass. He and Ted were also roughly the same age and by coincidence were friends with two brothers, Al and Bernie Cassidy. My father met Ted on several occasions over the years. Bernie was my dad's best friend and Al was a close friend of Ted and his neighbor in Florida. Al was also the executor of Ted's estate and battled with his daughter after his death....but anyhoo.

When Bernie found out that I was going to the card show he said if you want Ted to talk to you just say "Bernie Cassidy says Hello!"
So... thats what I did. don't ya know Ted stopped signing, grinned from ear to ear and started chatting away with my cousin and I. "So how do you know bernie? How's Terry (his wife)? Swear to God we chatted for 10-15 minutes. He even took the time to admire the other signatures on the ball and remarked that Yaz took the best spot. When we left the autograph line folks were buzzing asking us "how in gods name did you get him to talk??"

Definitely the highlight of my autograph hunting (at card shows at least)

I still need Bobby Orr to sign this great photo of the aftermath of a fight with the Canadiens in the early 70's. Most of the other Bruins have signed - Bucyk, Cashman, EJ. Like to get Espo, Marcotte & Hodgey too.

    Jery's T206 set: Looking for PSA 6's & 7's!
  • my coolest auto was the one i mentioned at the start of the thread. My most valuable auto is an auto of Jimmy Foxx that is on the ball that he hit a home run with in the 1929 world series. Al Simmons also signed the ball. We are trying to get it authenticated for insurance purposes. I know it is authentic cause my great grandfather was the one who caught the ball and got it signed. It has been in my family ever since.
