Cash - Do you send it? Do you receive it?

I am about to send off my first payment with cash. The sellers FB is 100% so I am not worried about him screwin me. The only concern I have is that it gets there. It's only 6 dollars and he doesn't take a personal check. I typically only bid on stuff I can pay via Payapl, but this one slipped thru my censor.

I receive cash as payment frequently on items I have sold. One guy sent $64. I thought he was nuts. Some guys tape the exact amount of change, to the penny, onto paper in the envelope.

What are your thoughts?

Jordan, make sure you wrap it well in paper so you can't see that it's cash, then tape the ends and edges so the dollars can't slide out and be seen. I'd like to say all postal employees are honest but that's like saying all ebay sellers are honest. Most of 'em are, but there's some bad ones too.

I hate when people send nickels, pennies, etc. Or better yet, they ask for a SASE.

I am 99.8% a buyer and most of the stuff I purchase is under 15.00
(a lot under 10 still can get Gary Carter items low priced)
I hate to waste a check or gum up my credit card bill with a lot of small transactions (also the wife flips out

) I have been sending cash for over 8 years and have never had a problem

I wouldn't sweat it, especially for $6.

It's amazing to me how many buyers send me cash, even though I state in every listing and invoice, "Please do not send cash." Of course, I really don't have a problem with it when they do... I just worry that eventually someone's not going to send the full amount, and then there will be an unwinnable argument about how much was or wasn't sent.

some folks are just used to doing it that way....for small purchases i've occasionally received $$ in Card Savers, flimsy plastic sleeves, a few coins taped between a pair of 1990 Topps baseball commons, dollar bills wrapped around a thank you note.....they always round up, and sometimes just for laughs i send the change

I've done it before when I bid on an item w/o noticing the seller doesn't take Paypal and I miss getting to the Post Office a few days in a row. Never for more than $6 or $7 and I always put the cash in a top-loader. I also tell the seller to keep the change if there is any.
I try to avoid paying cash and with a few exceptions, I rarely bid on items if the seller doesn't take Paypal.
And yes, I've have received cash quite a few times. Usually it's only for a few bucks, but 2 or 3 years ago, a buyer sent $71 inside the invoice.

iver never had a prob with sending cash to anyone and its better than running to the p.o 10 time a day to get money orders if they dont take paypal, people send me cash all the time as well

Whenever I send cash, I always do so in a bubble mailer. Nothing about it screams "I've got cash, please rip me open!"

BKritz - you should be seeing one of these bubble mailers soon.

I rarely ever send cash, mostly because I work nights and I am at the PO 3-5 times a week anyway. Getting a MO is easy. I have recieved as much as $300 in cash in the past. Usually from a Canadian buyer. My feedback is 1700+ with almost 5000 transactions at 100%, so I guess some of my buyers really trust me. It is usually sent well wrapped in paper, as few bills as possible.

I very rarely send cash and only if it's $5 or lower. I was paid with $50 in cash for a graded Gale Sayers card a couple of months ago. I almost emailed the buyer to play a joke on them by asking, "what's the deal, you sent a envelope with the side cut out and empty." But I just didn't have the heart.

I have sent cash about 5 times ( in 2500+ tranactions). The last time was about $40 to a large power seller who shall remain nameless. The cash never arrived. My bet is one of his employees took it.

I have received cash about 5 times in about 700 transaction even thoughI take paypal and personal checks.

I've been surprised with cash from the States a couple of times.. I would never send it though unless it was for $20 or less..

I've sent in several cash payments....usually $14 or smaller. If I'm going to do it, I have to prepare myself that I may never receive the item, and the amount given is what I can afford to lose. Lucky for me, I've received all my items with cash payments.

I would put the money in a top loader or card saver and then wrap with the invoice.

I send cash most of the time (500 or so transactions), and have probably actually saved money (cost of money orders minus amount of lost money). I send the cash in a small security envelope, wrapped in paper (the invoice) and then in a long security envelope. Can't see it against a 100 watt bulb, so I think it's fine.

How about this for timing. I just picked up a registered letter at my post office, it is from Germany. Inside I find 5 $100s and 3 $10s, wrapped in 2 pieces of paper. It's from an ebay customer for 2 game worn hockey jerseys. At least he sent it registered, and he'll know that it has been received.

Typically I'll send cash if it's under $30.00. I don't have the time to wait on line for a money order (not to mention the fee for the M/O) and I hate wasting checks on low priced items. I've had only one incident and it was just this past month that the seller never sent the card. I'm sure he got my money, but he fell off the face of the earth. It was $7.00...

I live in Canada and don't use paypal; I almost always send cash though most of my purchases are less than $50. Similarly, I receive cash quite often and sometimes the amounts are well into the hundreds. Like gameusedhoop I have noticed Euros have a habit of sending significant amounts in cash.
