Mantle Raw Cards

I'm in the process of collecting all the Mantle card from the 60's and I've read a lot of info where buying RAW cards
on ebay is a mistake. My question is, are there any times where you can actually get lucky by buying a raw card
and send it in and get a half way decent grade?

If you were in my shoes, would you just buy graded or occassionaly take a gamble on a raw card?

I appreciate all the great info I've learned on this site!

Also how long does it normally take to get your grades from PSA?

I think it depends on the card. If you are talking a 50s mantle and the more expensive 60s mantles then you are taking a risk. But if you are buying some of the cheaper mantles such as 1960 All Stars or any Leader Cards then you have a decent shot at the cards being ok. Just know your sellers.
BTW...I have a couple of cheaper mantles like that raw if you are interested that I would personally guarantee would grade unaltered by PSA.

To answer your questions, I would not buy Raw on Ebay especially with a high profile player like Mantle. You are much better off buying it already in a PSA holder... No reason to take the risk... You will be burned more often than not.

That depends on the level of service you buy.

I would say it depends on the grade of the Mick in question. I've purchased raw early VG Mantles with the understanding they were VG, with large enough scans front and back to determine bends, creases, corners and the like. All worked out OK. That said, I prefer Mantles slabbed to raw usually if I am after one.
  • Hey thanks! I appreciate it!

I live in Southern NH, but not in a trailer park...:-)

Yeah, I think I'l stick to looking for slabbed cards! Thanks for the advice

I think ebay is much more risky. But I still see many raw Mantles at shows that are ungraded and unaltered at shows. Of course most of those are lower to mid grade.
