seller ratings on ebay suck

Ok just got my 230th feedback (100%)
and this last clown dinged me on all 4 categories of seller ratings. Only have 12 so anything affects it right now

Auction ended Sunday, I sent invoice thanking him for winning bid etc. he paid quickly, I thanked him again and told him I would mail cards on Monday, I mailed it priority mail on Monday at a 60 cent higher cost to me than i charged him(PO label clearly showed the cost) Well packed with no chance of damage to the cards (16 heritage SPs). Emailed him again late Monday telling him cards were mailed.

Today he leaves good feedback but brought my item as described from 5.0 to 4.9, my 5.0 communication down to 4.9 , my shipping time from 4.9 (from the last idiot) down to 4.8 and my shipping and handling charges from 4.9 to 4.8.

WTF more could I do? I handle all auctions the same way and always ship the day after I'm paid. That really pisses me off

should I email this 28 feedback jerk a nasty gram? Already blocked him from ever buying anything else from me

It's only feedback, and you still have your 100% anyway.

Geez........what you gonna do when the inevitable happens and you actually get a negative feedback?

    ....not a big deal.....

  • i never look at the seller ratings, only the overall feedback. This entire system is worthless and the new details add virtually nothing of any value. But, I agree with you. you went out of your way to make the buyer happy and provided excellent service. not sure why you got dinged but don't worry about it. Nobody cares except you.

I've only paid attention to them cause they're fairly new and I'd like to keep them looking like 5 stars.

I do pride myself in taking care of customers in real life and on ebay.

I even gave this guy extra cards to keep his safe in the middle ( A & G sketch cards - maybe that's what pissed him off LOL)

4.9 is about as good as it gets anyway, don't think you should let that bother you.

your 100% feedback and 4.8 or better stars(like others said isn't the most important thing) is plenty if I were looking to bid on your auctions, I think you should just let it go and be happy about the more important things in life.

one thing to remember some people just can't be pleased. i would of liked to see the whole 5 star ratings thing for buyers as well. so you can rate them atleast how long it takes to pay.

good point dizzle, turn about is fair play!i could get into that!i got 4.9 all the way ,but i kinda think the concept is stupid, ebay is always improving something,or screwing it up,one or the other!

Ebay is just for selling. That little change won't effect your wallet, so don't worry about it. Actually, even the occasional neg won't cost you any coin, so don't sweat those either. The bottom line is all that matters. All the other crap is just window dressing.

Right now my ratings are 4.9, 4.9, 5.0, and 4.7 total of 52

And I admit the 4.7 irks me. I charge 3 lousy bucks on most auctions for shipping - packed securely in a cardboard carton, costs me .60 just for the carton, then of course postage, delivery confirmation charge, then of course packing tape, etc., I ship the next weekday on all auctions and I clearly state the $3 in the auctions so how can anybody be dissatisfied with that to give less than a 5.0?

Those seller ratings are a small step above useless. Even dirtball sellers seem to get 4.5 or higher on the categories.

I wonder what ebay "genius" came up with this pathetic rating system - musta been the ebay president's brother-in-law. LOL

Let's face it, the only way most buyers will rate a seller 5.0 on shipping is if shipping is free and even then I'm not so sure!

  • I know a seller who offers FREE shipping and has a 4.2 on shipping charges.. Many of my bigger items I lose money on shipping and have a 4.4 rating on shipping charges.

i personally have never looked at the seller's ratings details. i just look for negs, so if you are 100% feedback, you are fine.
  • Anyone that would leave a less than stellar detailed seller rating after they have left positive feedback and after you have done everything possible to communicate well, ship in a timely manner and provide a quality product, deserves to have negative feedback left for them and permanently placed on the blocked bidder list.

I sometimes will glance at the shipping charges , and shipping time. Other than that, move along. So you have a 4.9 average....I would start drinking heavily.

I hear what you're saying and I've had the same thing happen to me
as a seller. But really the only thing that matters as a seller is having the buyer pay for their items. That's why you're listing them on ebay, to sell them. The rest is all BS.

The ratings don't have much value anyway as has been pointed out above.

The one sub-category ebay should have in their rating for sellers is how well the item is packaged. Most sellers could stand a lot of improvement in this area but most don't seem to want to spend that extra minute to package cards correctly. Maybe if a rating was involved they would try to improve this area.

Also, if ebay can come up with these lame ratings for sellers, how about some ratings for buyers.

    Like:
    -communication
    -speed of payment
-acknowledgement of receiving the invoice/ and or goods
    -following payment instructions

Afterall, all transactions are a two-way street. Why should only sellers get dinged on the ratings game?

I hate these things too 4.8/4.8/4.7/4.9

All the buyers left very positive feedback, I think it is International buyers who are killing my shipping time. That is not my fault that you live on the other side of the world.

Well, you got fives across the board from me, Lee image

Like most people, I look for excessive negs (and even then, I make sure they're not all from some irrational dope of a buyer.) That's about the only thing that ever keeps me away from placing a bid.

Some ebayers are impossible, just this week I have this nutjob.
I had a buyer win an auction with Buy It Now for $170. He only has 2 feedback. The invoice is sent and he emails me back and tells me he is not going to send to a post office box that he wants my home address. I explain to him that I have what is called a Rural Route mail box. And that my address "Rt. x Box xxx" is an actual mail box in my driveway. He refuses to accept this. I send him a link on wikipedia explaining what a rural route box is and he still wants my home address and I continue to stress that this is the mailbox at my house. So finally I offer to let him send to my friends address since it is a street address. He agrees, so he will send to any other address I want to give him as long as it is a street, but he refuese to send to my address because he thinks it is a post office box.
  • i really wouldnt worry about it. Life is way to short to worry about Ebay's inadequate system.

I have ONLY sold graded cards on a new ID. I have gotten dinged twice for "item as described."

I clearly list and picture all cards. If there is a qualifier I put it in the title and re state it in the listing.

People are just plain difficult. Don't sweat it.

I have never looked at another sellers ratings besides they're overall feedback.
I have never looked my seller ratings besides my overall feedback.
I have never left another seller individual ratings besides a general feedback.
I may go look at mine now, but probably still won't worry about looking at anyone elses.

Ok so I ended up sending him a message asking why he dinged me on all four categories (I just wanted to know)
First he replied that he left positive feedback and that's all he did. I replied that I wasn't talking about the feedback, I was talking about the seller ratings - here is his response to this:

"Oh is that what your talking about? Take it easy man, I think you are the only person who cares about that. I give 3 stars to everyone because nobody's perfect. It is just a standard rule of mine. lease don't take any offense to that. Have a wonderfull weekend... and thank you for the cards, I am almost done with two sets."

well a standard rule of mine is to not let douchebags bid on my auctions.

So he and Barry Bonds are both on my blocked list image
  • EagleEyeKidEagleEyeKid Posts: 4,496 ✭✭
I think you should hunt this guy down like the animal that he is.
  • I don't see no reason why you should block this guy. 3 stars is an average rating that means the transaction was good but nothing really stood out.. Isn't that how most transactions on Ebay are?

He paid did not cause any real problems other than he dinged your star rating. I am not on Ebay to buy sell or worry about feedback I am there to sell items and get paid for them. You did both I would be happy.
