Pete Rose GU will not get even 200 bucks per, and he signed everything under the moon, so I don't see his autos getting that much..probably the first few
that hit, but after that you are looking at a 100% losing rip.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. A Karch Kiraly auto would bring at least $5k, maybe even ten. And Picabo Street? Forget about it. Off the charts. The holy grail of female skiier autos. No ceiling on that one.
  • I would sit on the sidelines and wait for either a price drop (retail markdown due to slow moving inventory) or the cards to show up on ebay for a fraction of the retail cost.

They had a booth at the national. I talked to the guy briefly. He said that a bunch of companies offered to distribute the set. I thought, “Heh.”

I told him that I was thrilled when I first saw the set, but my interest waned to nill when I heard about the price. His reply was that they wanted to keep it extremely limited. Well, they limited me right out.

Always a good strategy- extremely limited to the point no one wants to buy them. Whether limited or not, if the cards are good people will want them. They should've went the Heritage route or tried to carve out a niche in the $20/pack pricepoint. This will not take off like they had hoped.

Clearly a product that you will need to dump every single card the Day 1 of it going "live" to make your money back. I think one could make some $$$ but they are going to dump within the first week of release.

Then again it could be another Exquisite....
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Exquisite only took off because everybody wanted the best RCs of Lebron, Wade and Carmelo, and everything that followed was just a continuation. Without big RCs, this product has no chance.

with only 4,500 packs would be less than 375 sets total i think, with 48 cards in the base set

With such little production you know they did not get many autos and still had to pay those players big money for the signatures and contracts. They have advertised it a lot so I would imagine they got in a lot deeper than they thought and jacked the price. This is turning into a bad episode of Flip This House when the guy tells his wife they will make an easy 200K and then it ends with him crying in the corner of a 40% finished house holding a foreclosure and a stack of divorce papers.

Good post Allen. You're exactly right. This reminds me of when Action Packed decided to do a set with all of the cards completely coated with 24 Karat Gold and they sold them for $200 a pack. I think a few idiots bought them from the Home Shopping Network, but the industry was not ready for that type of thing and it was a complete bomb. Although now those cards would be pretty cool to have.

I only need 1 card to complete my 1976 reds starting 9 auto set. I want a Rose auto way more than his rookie. Yea I can buy one of those crappy tickets signed from his Resturaunt but they are too big for my display.

Rumor has it the Picabo Street auto cards have grease stains. Have you seen her lately?

Mike I bought 2 GAI Rose autos last year for about $18 each. Pretty good deal, you could always take them out of the case and just put the flp on the back. Interestingly though they looked a bit questionable to me.

They should have done 2 sets, one for the general collectors and then a high end set like this. It is weird to take a modern idea like Exquisite and attach it to a nostalgia set like Sport Kings. It's kinda like mixing Thai food with French.

  • it beyond me who is buying these Rose autos...

i mean do people value cheating, lying, defiancy, crudeness, tax evading? these are things you want to instill in your kids?

i mean i cant think of a card or auto that i would value less...Bondz maybe?

Most of the athletes pictured are not that worthwhile. Seems to be a hot seller at a show though.
  • Yeah... too steep for most collectors I'd say. Just for reference, a non-graded Kiraly pink hat Auto Memorabila went for $160 a few weeks back here: Kiraly Auto
I was tracking it but stopped once it went over $100. 4 bidders went over $100 on it.

Also the Kiraly silver Auto went for $56 (also raw), so I think there is demand for these out there. I'm not sure if the rearety of autos will really affect these cards that much. I mean, Kiraly is very generous to fans, and had easily signed many thousands of autos during has AVP career. However, with him retiring this year, that's probably driving up prices on his cards.
