What to do with commons from Wax Box breaks

I have been ripping alot of wax lately to try and complete my Larry Bird Set and just because I think I am addicted to wax ripping. image

Anyway..My question is what advice can you give me for all the commons/semi-stars I am accumulating from these rips... (1989 hoops, 1991 Fleer, 1992 toops, upper deck, stadium club, fleer etc). I doubt there is any market on Ebay, and I really don't have the room to store them..

Thanks

    I would ebay them.

Pull out all Jordons, sell in one lot.

Pull out all rookies, sell in one lot.

    Start the rest at $0.99.

Perhaps add one cool card from your collection to each lot to help move.

I remember Gary said he had a "childrens charity" he was giving tons of cards to.

You might want to check that out image
  • I usually put them in team lots and when I get 100 or 200 cards of a certain team I list them. I find they sell pretty good this way I have also had some success selling player lots of semi-stars and stars. I have seen some suprises when doing listings like this.
  • do you have a list of birds you are looking for? i recently sorted all my basketball into player groups and have hundreds of birds. if you need any of them i'd love to work something out.

Sell em, donate them, just don't trash them. Some kids out there might want them. Call up your local children's hospital, or a church's youth department. Not every kid carries around a Beckett in one hand and a calculator in the other to calculate the value of what you're giving him.

I have a big sub at PSA, if all goes well I should be close to done with that set. Thank you for the offer...

    Digicat,

Really that is probably the best advice.. I tend to be kind of lazy so trying to sell (2) 5000 count boxes of late 80's early 90's commons may be more work than it is worth..

I've had success putting 5000 count boxes on craigslist for 5-10 dollars.

I have seen some suprises when doing listings like this.

I realize what you have are basketball cards, but as an example if they were baseball cards... ya never know

I have wantlists for almost all 20th century sets in existence due to to my vast player collections. Most are commons or semi-stars (with a few hall of famers in the mix). If you decide to organize your cards for future sales/trades and would be willing to help some of us player-collectors---I'd be happy to send you specific wantlists for any set(s).image

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • I give mine to Goodwill. If someone wants to buy them and sell them on ebay for $10 or $20, good for them. Perhaps they need the money more than I.

  • Early 90's, the local hospitals finally told me to STOP bringing them cards - I had already given them enough to last for the next decade.

Decided to burn them. 55 gallon barrel - things wouldn't burn, probably because of all the glossy coating.

Poured gasoline on them, still wouldn't burn - they'd just scorch.

Collecting my sports heroes, Roger Staubach and Kirby Puckett.
  • I gave them away along with candy on Halloween last yr. We told the kids if they wanted them to help themselves. I got rid of nearly 2 boxes and many of the kids took to handfuls and forgot to take candy (I'm pretty sure 3 kids came back 3 or 4 times that night)

Try donating them to the coaches of your town's Little League teams, you'd be amazed how many boxes they'll be willing to take for their players. It's better than trying to burn em and who knows how many future collectors you may get started in the hobby.
  • I give my over load of cards to my mailman. He gives them away to the kids on his route.
