Did anyone here buy and submit any 1971's from Waverly's auction last month?

Just curious because there was a lot of discussion. I would like to know how they graded out of if they were rejected for trimming, recoloring, etc....

I have had a couple of 71s from him come back recolored, others were fine. I just keep my bids low and do not worry about it. My best success story is that a 1960 Hadley (always goes for more than $100) came back an eight. I have had about equal number 7s and 8s. I have won probably fewer than 20 cards from him.
  • i got a huge poppage yesterday of 1960 Topps that contained over 20 Waverly cards. Several 8's and two 9's ---- no rejects.

    I was VERY pleased.

This Waverly card looks like the corners were redone by an amateur...

    Wow, that truly is scary.

I guess it's a big hit or miss with Waverly. Good job Blindflyer on your success.

Just got back from PSA. 1971 Topps #190, 394, 613 all recolored. #272, 556 both evid trim. Also bought 1961 # 334. Came back PSA 8 & appears to be high-end. The re-coloring & trimming of the 71s is evidently a first class job. They look awesome.

  • I haven't bought any since his 61's, but out of the four or so I submitted I ended up with a 6, 8, and two 9's.

Here's what I don't understand- why would anybody bid on his stuff? He's a known card doctor and his stuff regularly comes back altered. Even if you are 100% sure that the stuff you're bidding on is legit, you're still supporting someone that's horrible for the hobby. Doesn't anybody feel slimy sending this guy money?
  • Yeah if I remember right I also submitted some 58's from him that came back recolored and trimmed.

with as many recoloreds he has sold, you could probably put a 71' recolored set together!!image
