Just looking through some recent threads and ran across this. Does this look fake to anyone? The letter looks very suspicious to me. Look at the letter head (logo) and it looks like it was laid on top of the letter and then scanned. You can even see the outline of it just under the logo. The body of the letter (all the text) seems to slant upwards slightly and the letter head (logo) looks straight. Also, look at the seller's feedback. They only have 3 feedback in the past year and only 1 as a seller in the last 2 years. Any thoughts?

Way to go eagle eyes and welcome to the boards! You make a good point. The letter looks totally jacked up:

There's also a grammatical error in the text: "...if I may of further assistance..." - the very last line. Add that to the way the letter looks, and I'd bet 10 to 1 that the letter is fake.

I bought these cards from an ad I saw in the back of Sports Collectors Digest in 1987.

The advertisement was for blank back and error cards. He had a few other player's cards from the Orioles like Jim Palmer, Mike Flanagan, Terry Crowley.

In a passing conversation with him, I mentioned I was a Ripken fan and he told me about this 9 card color proof set.

I also have a blank back card of Ripken's 1982 Fleer rookie card with Dave Ford's name on it and the words TEST CARD written over Dave Ford's name that I also purchaesed from him.

As VTG mentioned above, the Skybox/Fleer letterhead is clearly photoshopped or cut/pasted.

somebodys gettin the green ween on these lol, if your that stupid i dont feel sorry for ya though, lol,alot of players get their proofs from card companies for free, this should be no exception, the letter would says sometinhg like direcor of fleer marketing or have some kind of fancy tile in in, not loss control,thats pretty weak

The Fleer logo on the letter head looks like it is from the early 1990's. The letter is from 1998, I am pretty sure that 98 Flair showcase boxes did not have that logo on them.
