Am I crazy?

I was thinking of starting a PSA graded (any grade) set. I have no deadline to complete this, it just seems like something that could be fun and challenging.

The sets I am considering (and this is not a joke)
52 Topps
53 Topps
51 Bowman

I was thinking of either getting the big ticket cards first and working down from there OR loading up on the easy ones and then hitting up the major cards.

Why am I doing this?
1. Just seems cool
2. Its probably not a bad investment (I don't want to hear people say that value shouldn't matter etc...)
3. Gives me something to do and look forward too

Any thoughts?
Any thoughts on the best way to get started?

  • I am thinking about starting an '88 Topps baseball set...now that's crazy!

I would love to start the sets that you are contemplating...I just couldn't afford it!

If you got the big bills and deep pockets, go for it!!

You might approach one at a time.

You aren't crazy just LOADED!!! Get the big cards first, for they will only go up in value.

    1957 Topps 99% 7.40 GPA
    Hank Aaron Basic PSA 7-8(75%)
  • Thats the thing. I am not loaded. My plan was to pick up 1 or 2 cards a month. If I were to sell off EVERYTHING in my house that I am not currently using or need, then I may have a good head start. But after that it will slow down considerably. I would even "settle" for PSA 1 of the major cards.

That being said, anyone interested in a 1998 Gibson Les Paul DC hardly played? (half joking).

No, you're not crazy; you have the patience of Job to be able to do a project like that. As for 1952 Topps, people don't realize this, but you could quite realistically get at least #1-#310 in mid PSA grades (like 4-6ish). They still won't be given away but at least it would a somewhat more realistic goal for the time being.

Indeed, you should do 1987 or 1989 Topps instead (I like those designs better). Hee hee...image

you can do a 1952 topps low number set (#1-310) in low grade and it wont cost an arm and a leg. the mays card is the most expensive card then.
