1984 Donruss set

What a way to start a weekend! I just got my 1984 Donruss complete set. Picked it up on ebay for $50 delivered. Looking through the cards brought back some great memories. What an awesome set! The photography is just perfect. Man, there were some goofy looking dudes back then. And although I would like to eventually start a PSA graded set, it sure feels good having cardboard in your hands!

If anyone has spare 1984 Donruss PSA 9 commons, let me know.

Thanks!

Did you get a hand collated set or factory set? Either way it is one of the greatest of all 1980s sets and is MUCH more affordable now than it was in the late 80s/early 90s. Good job.image

Now get to work getting those other 1980s Donruss sets. The 1985 is also super sweet if you can find it. image

It's hand collated. I looked through it card by card and I'm very impressed. All cards are in nice condition with most of the stars even well-centered. Of course, the Joe Carter and Mattingly are a bit off-center.

As for the 85 Donruss set, I actually have a factory set from when I was a kid. Still in the sealed packages.

    Thanks,
    Brion

Have you thought about opening it and putting it in binder/pages along with 1984? The 1985's look AWESOME factory fresh.

  • I recently picked up that set from someone and it turned out to be missing two common cards. Not enough to get angry with the seller over but still frustrating enough to know my set isn't really complete.

So if anyone out there has #331-Ray Burris and a #602 Hubie Brooks they can spare, let me know

  • I finished digging my old collection from my mom's attic, and I found my 2/3 1982 Donruss set. I'm thinking about ripping a box to try to finish it, and maybe getting a box or 2 of 1984 Donruss to start a set. Those were some good days of my card collecting past. image

I opened my '85 Donruss factory set, and about 10 of the cards had major wrinkles from the factory, including Schmidt.
Yeah, I uploaded that KC icon in 2001

I think a few of my DK cards had some "factory dents" but other than that the set was fine. Was Donruss' quality control that year lacking or something?
