I'm going to be in St. Louis next Aug 8 or so; any card stores that specalize in sets?

My wife found what seemed like nine or so sports card stores in St. Louis, with three closest to where we are staying (the Econo Lodge near the Rams/Cardinals stadiums; where we met). Okay, you guys are familiar with my collecting style by now; I love complete sets. Right now I'm most interested in the following:

1974 and/or 1975 Topps set in NRMT/MT raw grade (so I'll need a vintage specialist for this one)

Now this list may be a bit more difficult to find a specialist in, as mid-to-late 1990s sets aren't exactly flying off shelves:

1996 and 1997 Finest silver (and possibly gold) sets
1994-1996ish Flair sets
1996-2000 Ultra Gold Medallion sets (I want to get the 1990s sets before I do the 2000s sets)
1996-98 Donruss and 1996-98 Score sets
1996-99 Fleer sets

So what would be the best St. Louis dealer to find these sets? Obviously someone who stocks up only the latest stuff is not for me.

I just hope I can find a way to get these home on the Greyhound bus too! image

Use your telephone and call them and ask each one if they have any sets your looking for.

We're going to do that too, but I just wanted to see if anyone here has personaly dealt with any of these card stores and knows the dealers and their reputations as well.

Hey, A-Rod and his 1994 Flair RCs have become popular lately; maybe I'll have some luck with my Flair run perhaps (since many who get A-Rod's 1994 Flair set might also go for the later Flair sets, just like the first time 1992 Bowman sets became popular also sparked a minor interest in the previous years' sets).

sadly the bricks and mortors stores in our town (st. louis) that were worth anything have shut down. the part of town where you will be staying has no stores. if you pm me i will give you a little more detail of one that may have something.
  • If you're in town on August 5th, there will be a show:

There's a shop out in Manchester/Ballwin called 1,000,000 Baseball Cards that has plenty of cards and packs. Owner is a little goofy, but has the best intentions.

An owner that's "a little goofy" only makes it more fun; I don't know if we can go that far out into the suburbs though. I checked his website but unfortunately it looks like he's more a singles dealer (though it could help in upgrading my sets). Any that have a great selection of sets?

  • I hear East St. Louis has some nice shopping.
  • Suburbs store is twenty minutes from downtown. Take 64/40 West, past 270 to 141 South. 141 South for several miles. Right (west) on Manchester Road, shop on the left 5 minutes down, strip mall just past Walgreens on the left.

And what do they specialize in? I guess just like collectors can't have one of everything, dealers can't either (even those that have millions of cards in inventory). And of course, with all those 1/1's, it's definetly impossible to have one of everything (as you know some of those 1/1's have been lost or destroyed forever).
