Cool find buying cards

Last night my son and I went to Wally World to pick up a few boxes of 2007 Football, when we walked outside, I see this really bright thing on the ground being lit by the lights on the store , Pick it up and it's a diamond earring , on the back it says 22k and the diamond is square , I think it might be real and it's not too small , I'd say about 1/2 to 3/4 carat .

I saw the metal detecting forum on here and I posted there as well .
I think I would like to get one of those metal detectors , that seems like it could be pretty cool .
Here is a pic of the earring . . .

i suppose it could be valuable if it fell out of a famous athletes' ear image
  • It probably has sentimental value to the owner. Did you try turning it in to the store lost/found?

LOL, I'd have a heck of a time getting that authenticated image

    Ummmm, maybe PSA/DNA image

    Too funny .

I have a little box of jewlery that I have found over the years that I'm saving for my son, that consists of a few broken gold chains, some small diamonds and a really nice saphire/gold /diamond ring .

The way the prices of everything go up and up and up , the kids are going to need every little bit of help they can get these days .

You know, I did think about it , If I did find it inside the store I probably would have , but this was inside the parking lot where there are a group of like 5 stores , Hmmmm

Now ya got me feeling a little bit guilty
  • I only ask because my wife lost her engagement ring while we were out shopping at home depot and such one day. Despite my offer of a 1k reward, we never heard a word. Man, replacing that one with no help from insurance (mysterious disappearance) hurt a bit...
  • TNTonPMSTNTonPMS Posts: 2,279 ✭✭
Wow, how strange is that , my wife lost the diamond right out of the setting of her ring too once , we never found the diamond either .

You would think they would make these settings a little bit more durable given what they are holding inside of them .

I'm not the type of person that deals with guilt really easily and I have a hard time forgetting about things that make me feel that way , so tonight I guess I'll go back to Wally World and see if anyone came in looking for it , I just hope that the person I give it to don't pocket it .

Besides , I'm the kind of person that also believes in what goes around comes around , I just wish out of all the times I have done things like this, would finally make it's way around to working for me too.

It's not that big of a deal to me , but like you said, it could have sentimental value to someone out there .

Thanks for the input Mr. Jlbsquared , maybe you've really helped someone out today with just your words sir ?

And maybe the "Powers That Be " have taken notice as well .

Just post a sign stating the earing is found. Have them contact you and either provide the mate or give a really good description of it. I don't think that earing is valueable enough for you to carry any guilt around no matter what you choose to do.

I turned in a 2 gig flash drive to a lost and found once, back when they were expensive, they told me, "Thanks, we just keep whatever is turned in for ourselves." I was kind of POed by that, but what can you do.

As someone who metal detects, if I find an item, like a class ring, with a name or initials and a school, I'll do my best to return it to the owner. Most of the jewelry I find is completely unmarked, so I have a lot of jewelry bits and pieces, no guilt here.

  • Don't actually return the item to the store.
Just leave your name and number and a vague description

    Something like
If anyone lost anything of personal sentimental value please give me a call with a description as I may have it.
You might even describe it as a piece of jewelry.

From experience far too many lost and found items do go home with employees unless they have a log in system

Some stores will have a log where if the item is not claimed in 30 or 60 days they will give you a call and it is yours -- but again I would guess many of these items still find there way into the hands of the employees

Hmmmm, thanks for the advice guys.
Mr. Bunchof Bull, that would have made me mad too !

They could have said keep it if that is the case , why should they get to keep it , you're the one who found it .

I know memory chips for the PC's and Laptops are still kind of expensive and the gig chips for the cameras still aren't too cheap either , I paid around $150.00 for the 512 MB for my camera and the 1 gig was twice that !

Man mr Perkdog, every time I see your Sig, I think I go into La-La land for like 5 minutes !

The girl without the hat is just so pretty it ought to be illegal to be that pretty , not that the other girl isn't , but there is something about that other girl that really does it for me .

Thanks for sharing , that has to be the best picture on this forumand I hope they aren't bound by any copyrights or anything like that , like what happened to Mr.lawnmowerman the other day .

LOL Mr.PasadenaMudSlide ! that is the first time I heard that, but no it's not , I just made my first icon a little bit smaller , what you're looking at is my 1932 NY Yankee team signed Baseball , which is just a little bit cooler IMHO .

Now that you mention that though, I wonder if a Tattoo artist could copy that sig ?
Here is the pic I took it from though, I just had to make it a little bit smaller 10KB.

I am willing to bet that stone is not genuine. It does not look right to me.

However, I hope that it is real.

Well, this is how it went , I went back into Wally World asked if anyone had been in that lost a piece of jewlery , the lady asks me to hold on for what seemed like a day , comes back and says , the only things lost were a set of keys and a diamond earring , so the person I guess did lose it there and did go back to find it , I told the lady that I think I found the one , she pretty much described the stone ,so I just gave it to the lady at Wally World and I'm guessing she must have left a number or something to contact the person who lost it .

I'm guessing it must have been genuine or who reallt would have wasted that much time on a 20$ stone < Shrug >

I'm no gemologist , so there is no way of me knowing for sure though .

I guess we all did our good deed for the day and made someone feel good right ?

I just hope if it ever happens to any of us in the future we're as lucky . . .

Thanks for all the input everyone . . .

I'll say this though, I'm really stuck on the idea of getting one of those ,metal detectors though and the next time . . .
