Hi everyone,

I need your help.

I am having trouble with my Vintage Football Card Gallery web site. When I click on the links for the sets (e.g., 1964 Topps) on the left side of the home page, a lot of the small pictures don't come up on the resulting pages. Most of the pictures come up, but I get a lot of red x's, too. Sometimes the pages don't come up at all, and I get a "The page cannot be displayed" error message.

I have reported the problem numerous times to my web hosting service, ipowerweb.com. They claim that they cannot see the problem. They say all the pictures all come up and the pages load quickly.

So, can you all do me a favor? Go to my
home page, click a few links on the left side of the page, and report back here whether it works for you or not. If it doesn't, I can point my hosting service to this thread and demonstrate that it's their problem.

Thanks,
Mike

I've been surfing for the last 30 minutes and haven't had any issues. When I click on your link, it took awhile to load the pictures. There were several red x's (16 total pictures not viewable) as well as the page took a total of nearly 4 minutes (3 min 49 sec) to load.

    I'm using IE 7.0

Good luck with some help from your hosting company!

I have visited your site in the past with no issues, but I just tried and couldn't stand to wait for it to load. After about two minutes, only 1 out of every 5 or 6 pictures for each set would load, the rest being red x's. I'm on a pretty decent DSL connection with a new computer and have had zero problems with any other site I frequent.
  • I tried it with both Opera and Firefox - it was just waaaay too slow to wait for. So I don't know if they all load or not. Sorry.

It appears to be good for me now, too. I hope it holds.

Thanks again for your help. If anyone else tries and has problems, please post here so I have a record.

I suspected it wouldn't last. Here's what I get now. The last advice I got from ipowerweb was to upgrade my browser!

So what's everyone seeing who isn't using my browser?

I appreciate everyone's help. This is the best way I can think of to show that I'm not the only one seeing the problem.

    Mike,

Loading horribly slow, and with the size those thumbnails are, they should load instantaneously. I don't seem to be using your browser (I think). image

    Good luck!

  • I just tried your site and had the same slow/not loading issue. People with faster download times probably aren't as affected as faster download speeds give you a chance to retry more times. I'm in between ISP's for the next 2 weeks and I am using very slow (320 up 350 down) DSL. It seems to be related to the loading of the random ads, mostly .gif files that populate in the border. They are relatively large and they change each time you visit. Also, they usually load high priority. Once you click a link and move on through your site, any page(s) that you go back to are correctly populated. So, that would lead me to believe that it may be an encryption conflict, data collision or overlap etc. with the random ad loader, or something akin to that. Your photos aren't large and they should load much quicker. Your web hosts are viewing it on fast, close hardware surely with a static IP, so with that kind of speed data collisions and retries or an encryption choke and retry become not nearly as noticeable and since it may well be their ad loader, they are home and encryption issues would be transparent anyway. But even if that is the case (and that was by the way, a shot in the dark), the odds are that it will miraculously heal itself one day and just like the phone company, they will never give you a mia culpe.

With all that said, it is a nice site. I like the way the homepage is laid out with a picture of the card titled by brand and year of the card for those of us who can't remember which style of card is which, your site would be handy. Regards, Gene
The goal of one's life shouldn't be to arrive contently at the grave in a perfectly preserved body but to slide in sideways, totally worn out shouting "Holy S--T what a ride!"
  • It still loads for me, but MUCH slower than a few nights ago.

Hooray! Ipower finally owned up to the problem and moved the site to a new server. Thanks again for all your help. I'm sure that seeing this thread helped convince them to take the problem more seriously.
