alot of you no me on here. i got a weird ebay email.. doesnt show up in my my messages on ebay. but the item number does.

Contact me asap someone's trying to pay for an item of mine with your paypal account/credit card.
I don't think it's you because they are avoiding contact through your eBay
account saying that they cannot access it.
This means that they somehow have your paypal or credit card details but they
don't seem to have access to your eBay account.
Contact me through eBay using the respond now so I can give you more details ... if you can't use respond now email me at dbtdcsm007@yahoo.com.

thats the email from ebay..

Details for item number: 250140102131 thats the item number..

Item title: Angel Wagon Planter thats the item.. is this a scam? or does someone have my account?

    Send it to spoof@ebay.com

You should get a response within 10 minutes.

If you want to take it a step further, contact him through the auction -> link

Forward him the email and ask if he sent it.

Go to your Paypal account and see if there's any suspicious payments. If not, then it's bogus.

Odd that they're telling you to contact them through Ebay though.

Do not click the link from the email!

Just forward it to spoof@ebay.com and you'll know within 10 minutes.

Edited to add: If you contact him through eBay, they cannot trace your IP.

no response from ebay been 15 minutes..
  • stownstown Posts: 11,321 ✭✭✭
Wow, really? The only time it took longer than 10 minutes for me, it was legit.

Go through the auction (not email) link, contact the Seller, and copy/paste the email to him.

Might as well get it straight from the horse's mouth.

i did that i contacted him through one of his different auctions. but told him the item number i got email about. see what happens.

like i said 6 years on ebay.. i have had spoof emails before but nothing like this. when the item number is legit.

What's strange is that his ebay and email addresses are almost identical:

    eBay: dbtdcsmammo

    email: dbtdcsm007@yahoo.com

It's either legit or a very clever scam.

Hopefully it was just a phishing email.. Good luck and keep us posted image

As the mass e-mails scams become less successful for the scammers due to people worldwide understanding and avoiding these scams, the scammers I believe will start targeting people on a personal level IE they'll zero in on certain people anywhere. For example, now I get the scam ebay notices from auctions with numbers which are two years old...but I expect one day they'll take a shot and e-mail me on my specific auctions and try to scam me in some way. Fortunately I haven't seen that level of scammer sophistication yet, but it's coming.

There is no doubt, 100%, that's a scam e-mail. Frankly, it's a mistake to even open it because they can somehow trace through the HTML in the e-mail that you opened it, hence you are now likely to receive more scam e-mails because it's more of a cream list to them when they know someone is likely to at least open their e-mails.

In the future just delete it, don't open it, and it's a waste of time reporting it to ebay. The scammers are usually based in Nigeria as well as some former Soviet Union countries, as well as China - there is nothing ebay can really do about it.

Perhaps you should check your ebay profile and bank information now to make sure nothing has been changed - also make sure your sales are going to your PayPal account and not his PayPal account, and DEFINITELY login and change your password. I think you should be okay and no problem be able to keep your ebay account if you square this away - unless someone can chime in with better advice.

The amount of hits on the item tells me that the email you received was also received by many other people.........even considering we here have added a number of hits ourselves.

It sounds like a pretty basic eBay spoof to me. I would not assume the seller is the one who sent you the e-mail. Like almost all spoofs it is trying to get you to reply.

  • I got the exact same email tonight! Pure bogus alert.

At first I was like WTF, and I checked my Ebay messages and Paypal....and I knew it was not real.

Mine was for the exact same Wagon item too. The seller has nothing to do with it, as it is probably somebody using a legit item number to make it look real.
