  • I don't think the average fans hates him as much as the media wants the fans to hate him.

Plus, in the grand scheme of things, 2.2 million votes doesn't represent a whole heck of a lot of people.

Considering there are probably a couple million people between San Fran, Oakland, and surrounding areas...and even if you want to go through further, a good more than that, 2.2 million is no big surprise. Can people vote more than once? Yes, I am sure he got votes from all over the country but was just putting a little perspective into it.

I have a very logical and reasonable explination.

And those who's home cities have hosted an All-Star game can vouch for this image

With the All-Star game in SF, there was a ground swell in the Bay Area of support for Bonds. Keep in mind, there is no limit to the amount of times one fan can vote. Every regular season game, the PA announces how many votes a player is behind/ahead and encourages the fans to vote. Ushers hand out ballots by the handful and tell them to stuff the box for X player. Emails are sent on a daily basis. With him trailing near the end, I can guarantee that the team pushed as hard as possible and made a reminder announcement during every inning.

The stadium probably holds around 40K, so you can do the math and see how feasible it is.

Like I said, if your city has hosted an All-Star game within the last couple of years, it's the same MO. That's why Kent and Berkman were starters in '04.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • With a week to play, he was behind by 123,000 votes. He ended up third, making up those votes and an additional 120,000+ votes. a quarter of a million votes in a week is nothing when you think about the guy back in 2000 or 2001 who figured out a way to vote for Nomar 150,000 times in one day...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
  • funny how nobody seems to think that Bonds got his votes because maybe, just maybe he deserves to be in the top 3 OFers??

Relative to the top 5 OFers (voting), he is #1 in OBP, SLG and OPS; #2 in HR and #3 in BA and has between 70 and 150 fewer ABs than any of the other players in the top 5.

Even the most ardent Bonds haters have to concede a little bit here and not attribute it solely to the home town support. Love him or hate him, there is no player in MLB who people want to watch more than Bonds when he comes up to the plate.

The voice of the people is generally the voice of stupidity.

All you have to do is look at the last few Presidents of the United States that have been elected to confirm that fact ...
