Reporting to ebay - does it ever help?

I was wondering if ebay ever takes action on a complaint. I reported a guy who was selling a Jordan rookie, in the title he said it was a BGS 9. But he card was actually a BGS 8 with only one of the sub-grades as a "9". Deceptive title to me...apparently not to ebay since I reported it and the auction continued with that title. I have been on the boards here for some months and hear horror stories about ebay not taking action. Is the reporting process just a bunch of smoke and mirrors? John

There's some sellers here who had all their items cancelled because they mentioned taking cash as payment. I saw a seller with 300 items clearly saying he takes cash, reported him, they got cancelled, they were relisted in hours the same way. Reported him again, nothing.

Ebay considers everyone equal, some people are more equal than others.

i think you get more results if you report spam than what you're talking about.

dunno by any means, in fact i should just shut up.

I've had very little success with SafeHarbor over the past 7 years, that I've pretty much given up on reporting a problem except when a scan is stolen and used to defraud potential buyers. That seems to get immediate action - just about everything else doesn't.

The most frustrating example of eBay doing nothing was with a blatant shill bidder about 3 or 4 years ago. He had a buying account and a selling account. He bought several items from me with his buying account and a week later another collector/friend contacted me to verify who that buyer was. The reason for this inquiry was that this other collector noticed suspicious activity on the selling account with this buying account and this collector contacted me to verify the bidder's identity and we found out it was the same person. This collector reported this activity to eBay and nothing ever happened. This seller used to post frequently on this board but fortunately appears to have faded out from the hobby.

Seems to be certain things get pulled quicker. Avoidance of ebay fees seems to be their priority. Counterfits...last. Probally due to lack of info (on their end) if it is real or not.

  • That is not a major thing and Ebay may not feel it needs to be pulled. They still follow that buyer beware rule and feel a buyer should know.

Reporting it as KWS would have probaly gone further, I have heard on things like excessive shipping it takes 3 reports to get it pulled.
