What year did quality control improve on the OPC issue?
(When did they stop using dental floss to cut the cards and start using Beavers) image

    1990 was the first year of mostly smooth edges.

    Personally, I think things were a lot better come 1983.
    I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

    Hockey, yes, about 1989-90. And I also agree that baseball started looking better by the mid-80s. Kind of weird that baseball was better quality than OPC's flagship hockey cards. It wasn't as if they would have used a different cutter.

    Not sure but I have some vending OPC from the early '70s that have smooth edges. Did you mean from wax boxes only?

    Love the 72-73 OPCs, thick card stock, horrible centering and that rough cut--when it's done right, it's beautiful.


    Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

    To my knowledge, there were no vending boxes for OPC until 1993.
    Correct me if I'm wrong.
    Factory sets started in 88.
    Do You Collect image Baseball 1937,1965-94,2008-09?

    OPC hockey from the early 70's and 69 2nd series was cut by topps which explains why they have better edges , less centering problems and are more abundant in high grades.

    there was a 76 opc baseball vending case in mastro a few auctions ago, have yet to see a box from the case on the market anywhere. there was a seller that claimed to have a couple of 73 opc baseball vending boxes on ebay a year or so ago, outside of that , never seen or heard of opc vending baseball boxes
